December 2023

Ceca Foundation was founded by the Matthew and Rosemary Lawlor family in honor of Mary Lawlor to recognize caregivers and celebrate their exceptional acts of care.

Key Highlights

Tis the Season to be Thankful

This year, Ceca celebrated its 10th anniversary—a major milestone we are proud to reach. It has been an honor to have been part of this journey from its infancy and to see what Ceca has grown into. As I sit here and reflect on this year, and the last decade, I realize that there is much to be thankful for.

We have incredible and supportive founders in the Lawlor family, and each day we strive to continue the mission that Matt and Rosemary had in mind when they created Ceca Foundation. We also endeavor to honor Mary Lawlor’s memory and to be reminded of the amazing caregivers that made such a difference in her life at Knollwood Life Plan Community.

I come to work each day not only to deliver on that mission, but because I am infinitely thankful for the team members that work for Ceca, and most importantly, for our care community partners that understand how much it means to say ‘thank you’ to their caregivers. Maybe it’s a dream, but we believe that even simple gestures of kindness and gratitude in return can put the human touch back in healthcare and change the landscape as we know it.

I could not be prouder to say that since the start of the program, we have seen over 12,000 exceptional caregivers honored for their kindness, compassion, teamwork and more. Additionally, 45,000 acts of care have been recognized by staff members, patients, residents, clients, and loved ones at our partner care communities, and 1,400 Ceca Award recipients are CNAs, nurses, housekeepers, foodservice and other healthcare workers that deserve to be thanked. We have also seen real increases in employee retention and satisfaction in our partner communities, which has positively impacted quality of life and the human experience for those that are cared for.

Finally, I’m thankful for this opportunity to lead the organization into its next decade and beyond. I’m excited to see what we can do in the years to come, and I look forward to the many more care communities, caregivers, patients, residents and loved ones we can positively impact.

With gratitude,

Nate Hamme

Ceca In the News

McKnight's 2023 International Ceca Award

McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse interviewed Nate Hamme for an article to showcase how the program works and why it’s so important to honor caregivers, especially in often disjointed home care settings where caregivers serve remotely at sites and don’t often interact with colleagues. The Ceca Award program has ultimately benefitted home care organizations, increasing employee retention by as much as 120% for caregivers that are recognized.

Program Updates

Welcoming Our Newest Partners

Ceca is excited to introduce two of our newest healthcare partners. Palm Beach Health Partners has brought the Ceca Award to their 6 care communities in Florida, and Green Tree Healthcare Management has added 6 of their care communities from Virginia, Rhode Island and Missouri. Join us in welcoming these care community partners!

Double Your Donation - There's Still Time!

We still need your help this holiday season to meet our matching donation goal. We're nearly halfway there, but still want to hit our goal of $200,000 before the end of the year. Between now and December 31, every contribution you make up to $200,000 will instantly double in reach and impact. With your support, we can recognize more caregivers for their exceptional efforts.

Closing Out the Year on the Conference Trail

We’ve had a busy fall, hitting the ground running at seven industry conferences. Nate Hamme provided continuing education sessions and supported annual recognition and awards programs for the Health Care Association of Michigan, LifeSpan Network, and Pennsylvania Health Care Association. Additionally, he presented at conferences for California Health Care Association, Illinois Health Care Association, and Virginia Health Care Association. He also attended The Healthcare Council Annual Conference in September. We're thrilled to be back out on the road meeting new friends and recognizing deserving caregivers across the country!
