LPLC Quarterly eNewsletter Fall, 2021
Executive Director's Update
Fall Greetings --
As we embrace cooler temperatures this fall and find ourselves shifting to a routine with more hours spent indoors, it seems like a good time to reach out with updates and share resources with friends, family, and partners of Lee Pesky Learning Center.
In addition to the weather changes, this fall brings a sense of celebration and accomplishment at LPLC. For example, we recently celebrated the incredible success of our Running for Learning fundraising team, launched our statewide Every Child Ready to Learn (birth – 5) initiative, invited students and clients back to the center for in-person services once again, and completed our first quarter of professional development with all 32 elementary schools in the Boise School District. I am proud to be a part of this team and grateful for the hard work of our staff and board. I am also grateful for your partnership -- “Together, we can….”!
We hope this quarterly eNewsletter serves to keep you informed, connected, and keenly aware of the impact of your partnership.
Fall is the perfect time to catch up on reading. This fall, we are pleased to recommend two books written by members of LPLC's community:
A Dog Named Bronco: Written by LPLC Professional Development Director Cristianne Lane, A Dog Named Bronco is a fun story for children who love dogs, adventures, and football! Follow Tom and Maria on their journey to pet ownership as their dog Bronco takes them on a playful adventure culminating at the stadium.
More to Life than More: Written by LPLC Founder Alan Pesky, More to Life than More is Alan’s exploration of misunderstanding, loss, and learning. A memoir that will resonate with those who have lost a loved one, with anyone who has been impacted by learning challenges, and with parents who have struggled to understand a child. According to Kirkus Reviews, it is "An articulate, unflinchingly honest, and touching account brimming with joy, heartbreak, and love."

Meet Social Work & Counseling Intern
Brittany Morency
Did you know that LPLC provides academic coaching services?
A current graduate at the University of Kentucky, Brittany Morency works with LPLC clients as an Academic Coach providing clients with tools and strategies to become self-regulated learners.
One of Brittany's clients, Josie, needed a way to plan her school week that did not involve a great deal of writing. She also needed an organizational system that incorporated her electronic documents in Google Classroom.
The solution? The duo set up a system for paper organization in an expandable file folder that is color-coded to match Josie's electronic organizational system in Google Drive. They also created a coordinating weekly paper planner where Josie can simply circle the items necessary for each class in order to avoid the added stress of writing out each line item of her to-do list.
The current goal? Josie is scanning school documents to Google Drive so she can use assistive technology, such as speech-to-text, to complete assignments with greater ease.
In Josie's words, "Brittany has helped me to find a way to organize with more ease and confidence. I feel I can be more independent at school."
FY21 Impact Update
Last year we were grateful to have the steadfast support of countless community partners. Learn more about our community's collective impact by perusing LPLC's FY21 Impact Report.
Giving Tuesday: Join the Generosity Movement Today!
Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Today, on Giving Tuesday, we invite you to make a gift to Lee Pesky Learning Center. And thanks to the generosity of a donor, every gift made TODAY will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $2,000.
Your contribution will ensure students, families, schools, and our community are provided the necessary resources to overcome obstacles to learning.
Brought back by popular demand this fall, LPLC--in partnership with The Alliance of Idaho--is offering limited-edition Let There Be screen prints.
Whether gifting for the holidays, marking a special occasion, or brightening the walls of your own home, Let There Be is a gift that will keep giving year-round.
Running for Learning: Bringing Meaning to Miles...
Each fall, LPLC gathers a team of long distance runners who are eager to train for the New York City Marathon and fuel their training with further purpose.
This year, LPLC was honored to have 12 runners who raced in the 2021 NYC marathon on November 7th. Collectively, they covered countless miles and raised over $48,000 for LPLC.
