Kings Board Approves Master Facilities Plan
As we reported last week, the Kings Board of Education approved the Master Facilities Plan presented by the Community Advisory Team. This also means that the Board has approved to place a bond levy on the March 19, 2024 ballot.
We will be providing the facts regarding the overcapacity and needs of the District.
See the document below. It outlines the process and engagement that was completed during the Master Facilities Planning process. Additionally, it outlines the recommendation for a new high school from the CAT Team. Lastly, you will see the information regarding financing the project.
At this week's Board of Education meeting, Kent Kashell from RBC Captial, the firm that oversees the District's bonds, explained how the District will be paying down old debt to help lower the new millage impact for taxpayers. For example, the ballot language states that it is a 5.971 mill levy for 142 million dollars. Paying down the debt for the existing projects and phasing in new payments will bring the actual bond impact to taxpayers to 3.5 mills.
We will continue to keep you informed. If you have any questions regarding school finance, please contact Kings Treasurer, Mike Morrow at mmorrow@kingslocal.net.
Please visit the Kings Facilities Page on the Kings website to learn more.

Kings Emergency Notification System Test
REMINDER
It’s getting to be that time of the year when the potential for bad weather is upon us. In case of inclement weather and possible school closings or delays, we will use our School Messenger All-Call System to notify parents and staff.
The District will conduct a test call on Wednesday, December 20. Please be sure that your FinalForms account is up to date. That information goes directly into our School Messenger system. If you would like to receive text messages, text yes to 67587 to opt-in.
Additionally, keeping your student's FinalForms account current with emergency contact numbers is important, especially going into cold and flu season, to allow for parents to be contacted in case of a student's illness at school. Please also screen your student before they come to school for any symptoms of illness.
Social Media is also a great way to get information. For the most up-to-date school closing information, check our website, Facebook Page, Twitter, and Instagram.

Gingerbread Man Hunt at KECC
This week Mrs. LesChander’s preschool classes went on a gingerbread man hunt! Students practiced rhyming skills while following clues throughout the school that helped guide them on their adventure.
He ran, ran, as fast as he could in the morning, but the afternoon class ran faster and caught him!

Learning About Computer Software at CIS
5th-grade Team Tenacity at Columbia Intermediate School was treated to a guest speaker from Autodesk, a global software company.
Kings parent, Josh Spencer shared his knowledge of TinkerCAD, Fusion 360, and other engineering software. He shared how the industry has changed over time and how automation and AI are impacting future jobs in engineering.
The students were excited to see how Autodesk is involved with the animation and gaming industry, as well. Our students were taught how to use TInkerCAD earlier this year so they participated in a Winter Wonderland design contest so that they could show Mr. Spencer how they are using his software in the classroom.

In an effort to be "green," the District does not send paper flyers home. We use a platform called Peachjar that houses flyers of community programs and resources.
Parents receive approved flyers via email, and they are posted on our digital flyerboard for easy retrieval. Any organization can distribute information to our community by creating an account!
