Cordoba Academy Newsletter - June/July 2022
End of School Year Message From our Executive Director
Dear Cordoba Academy Community,

Thank you for another wonderful and productive school year. A special thanks to our devoted staff, board members, volunteers, and parents for their endless support for our students and for going above and beyond to collectively provide our students the best experience at Cordoba Academy.

Parents, thank you for bringing your children to our school and trusting us with their personal growth and development. Although you had other options to choose from, you chose us to educate your child.

To all our brilliant students: Thank you for all of your hard work throughout the year. We are grateful to have the opportunity to educate you and serve you to become our leaders of tomorrow. Best wishes to our graduating 6th graders, Rayyan Sheikh and Amina Sheikh. We are so proud of you and are excited to see what the future holds for you!

Everyone please have a safe and fun summer break! We look forward to having you back in the Fall InshaAllah.

Respectfully,
Hafiz Adnan Khalid
"I have spent the last short five years at
Cordoba. In those years, I've learned many
things. I will miss the teachers and the company of my friends who taught me not be afraid to take a risk. I will miss Br. Adnan joking around with me all the time and I'll miss going to his office whenever I need. I
will miss the teachers who selflessly gave up
their time to teach me to be better."

-- Rayyan Sheikh
"I have been going to Cordoba for five years and will miss everything about it. The teachers were amazing and they worked very hard to teach us. I am very grateful for them. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to make new friends. I will miss them all very much.
One piece of advice I'd give to incoming students is to trust the teachers and they will help you out with any difficulties no matter how hard it is."
-- Amina Sheikh
Summer Events
We are hosting a mock mini Hajj event so that children can learn about the story of Ibrahim (AS), experience what it is like to perform Hajj, and learn about the rituals that are performed.
Summer Camps
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting 2 summer camps in July!
Bundle the fun and learning with the Cordoba Academy STREAM & Annual Summer camps.
Our camps are full of fun activities and learning for children ages 7 to 12 in a safe, supervised Islamic environment!

Cordoba Academy's summer camps provide an opportunity for the youth to connect with other local Muslims from diverse backgrounds, participate in a variety of educational and recreational activities, and gives them the ability to grow spiritually, allowing them to reflect on their faith.

Space is limited so RSVP early for these highly anticipated camps.
Making the Most of the Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
On no days are righteous deeds more beloved to Allah (SWT) than these 10 days (the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah)
[Bukhari]
  1. Recite Quran. The Quran is Allah (SWT)'s speech so we should spend as much time as we can reciting the Quran and reaping the reward.
  2. Increase in nawafil prayers. Offering salat is one of the best deeds that one can perform for the sake of Allah.
  3. Do istighfaar. One of the most important things we should do during these blessed days is to sincerely ask Allah for forgiveness and to purify our hearts. We should also mend broken ties with our loved ones.
  4. Fast. It is mustahhab (desirable) to fast during the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah, especially on the day of Arafah.
  5. Give charity. Giving sadaqah is one of the best acts of worship one can offer, especially sadaqah jariah (a continuous charity).
  6. Udhiya. Eid-ul-Adha is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice. On this day, we should perform the ritual of a symbolic sacrifice of an animal to commemorate Ibrahim (AS)'s sacrifice of his son, and distribute the meat to the poor.
  7. Do dhikr. We should do as much dhikr as we can, especially Takbir, Tahlil, Tasbih, Tahmid, and Talbiyah.
