Shasta County Office of Education (COE) has a new Early Childhood Education and Observation Center to better serve children, families, educators, and their community. It includes co-located programs to streamline systems and break down barriers and is changing the way they serve and support children.

Focus: Alternative Education, Arts, Social Emotional Learning

Sonoma COE created an opportunity for alternative education students called See You on the Other Side, meant to give students an opportunity to have their voices heard and to be part of a healing experience. Many of its 12- to 18-year-old students come from marginalized backgrounds and most have been expelled from other Sonoma County schools or haven’t found success in the traditional school settings.

Focus: Alternative Education, Career Technical Education

Monterey COE developed a bold approach to inspiring their alternative education students through a partnership with a non-profit called the Bob Hoover Academy. The program engages students from difficult backgrounds to focus on their academic skills while gaining experience in the field of aeronautics, which can lead to flight lessons and even solo flying, and maybe even a future career.

Focus: COE In-house Credential Programs, Staffing Shortages

With Tulare COE as the lead agency for the California Center on Teaching Careers, our county offices are focused on a sustained, comprehensive and coordinated approach to address staffing shortages. Working with COEs, school districts, and public and private universities throughout the state, the Center is one approach to implementing proven strategies to attract, place and retain a deep and diverse bench of teaching talent.

Focus: College and Career Readiness, Equity, LCAP

Riverside COE created a video series to showcase equity in action through LCAP activities that are making a difference. The first episode features students from Jurupa USD through a key program inside the district’s 1:1 Digital Gateway Initiative that addresses technology instruction and access through the district’s LCAP Goal #1: all students will be college and career ready!
