HONORING OUTSTANDING

FEMALE ATHLETES

Last Friday, February 17, 45 DCSD middle school and 45 high school outstanding female athletes were honored at the annual Girls & Women in Sports Luncheon at Cherry Hills Community Church. Presented by the Athletics & Activities Department and The Foundation for Douglas County Schools, and in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, this inspiring event showcases sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing effort for equality and access for women in sports.

The first Career Pathway Expo hosted by the District Accountability Committee (DAC) and The Foundation for Douglas County Schools last Thursday was a huge success! It was a full house at the DCSD Legacy Campus with many families gathering information about our school district’s many pathway programs. Students representing Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) such as DECA, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and TSA (Technology Student Alliance) that prepare students for college and careers had the opportunity to share what their organization does and projects they are currently working on. Additionally, leaders from the new Legacy Campus and VALE shared the new opportunities that will be available to students Fall of 2023.

The Douglas County School District's Perseverance Scholarship has awarded over $276,000 in scholarships to nearly 200 seniors since 1988. Financial need and academic merit are key criteria used in selecting the scholarship recipients.

In addition, students who are awarded this scholarship have often overcome personal challenges. These students show grit, determination and resiliency, and need financial assistance to continue their education after graduation from a DCSD school.
