It's Not What You See, It's What You Don't See

Dear Karen,

There are few services The Pines Foundation provides that impact our homes more directly than our Lyme Disease/Rodent Control program. We can’t think of anyone in our community who is not concerned about Lyme disease or questions, “Do I have a tick bite?” There are two parts to our highly effective initiative, both of which are serviced by pest control professionals:

1.    Lyme Disease Control Every spring and fall, Thermacell tubes are distributed on every residential property to control the tick population. These biodegradable “paper towel-like tubes” use an environmentally friendly compound to kill ticks thereby reducing the number that land on deer which are the primary spreader of Lyme Disease.

2.    Rodent Control This essential part of the program is an action that takes place 12 months a year. It consists of baiting traps for rats and mice. Traps are placed on every walk throughout residential areas of the Pines under boardwalks. They are monitored monthly by our pest control vendor. Without this, there would be an increase in rodents that find their way inside homes seeking food and shelter, especially during the winter months.

Together, our Lyme disease and rodent control programs cost over $40,000 per year to maintain. We mustn’t let our guard down. More residents donate to this program than any other.
