Member Spotlight
Anthony Guerrero
MBA, CFM, CEFP
Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Services and Campus Operations, UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College

Tony has been in facilities management for over 40 years and has overseen the UWB/CCC facilities services since the Summer of 2003.  At the Bothell campus, Tony is responsible for the grounds & wetlands; maintenance; custodial; sustainability; moves and events; mailing services; EH&S; emergency management; campus safety and transportation.

His career in facilities management began with the State of Arizona in the mid 1980’s before moving to Seattle to take the position as the maintenance superintendent at the Kingdome for 9 years. Tony was the Director of the Yuma Civic & Convention Center and baseball complex in Yuma, Arizona for 3 years. Longing to come back to the PNW, Tony and his family returned to Seattle in June of 2000 to begin working as the Southwest Zone Manager for the University of Washington Seattle Campus.

Tony has a certificate in Facilities Management from UW Seattle, a Bachelor’s degree in Business from UW Bothell and an MBA from Seattle Pacific University. He has both a CFM and CEFP designation from IFMA and APPA respectively. IFMA and the Seattle Chapter has connected Tony with his FM peers from all types of facilities. From factories, warehouses and retail to medical centers and labs to high rises as well as campuses like UW Bothell. Tony stated that we have different missions but we all connect as facility professionals serving our customers and maintaining our infrastructure, buildings and grounds to the highest level possible. Tony also believes there are times that you need to connect with another FM who serves the same community as you do. Tony is also a member of  APPA-Leadership in Educational Facilities. APPA provided the higher educational focus connecting him with his peers from Universities and Colleges from around the USA and the world. Tony has served as President, Jr. and Sr. Representative, Secretary Treasurer for Pacific Coast Region of APPA. He served on the Executive Committee of APPA as Secretary Treasurer and VP of Membership. He was also the President of the local chapter of PCAPPA, which is NWAPPA.  This specific involvement complements his membership in IFMA with specific networking, learning best practices and education for those who manage facilities in higher education. Tony is also retired from the Air Force Reserves after 20 years.

During his free time, Tony loves to go fishing in his boat in the PNW or drive his Toyota FJ Cruiser in the mountains of Arizona.

Post-COVID Workplace Strategies
A Roundtable led by Vince Rosauer in collaboration with the
Greater Seattle Chapter of the IFMA
Hello Facilities Round Tablers! Looking forward to collaborative and interactive discussion on the hottest workplace topics in the new world of the hybrid and remote workforce. Below are some of the topics in the queue. Please forward any other topics you wish to discuss!

  • Returning workforce decisions: Who stayed home? Who came back to the office? What is the percentage trend within your organization?
  • New workplace concepts to answer the dynamics of the come and go workforce: Free range? Hoteling strategies? Employee temporary storage solutions?
  • The IFMA Experts Assessment Vol. 2 identified workplace trends in 2030 as: "Distributed work is the norm, and the office's role will primarily promote corporate identity and culture". How will this transition happen in your facilities and companies?
  • Working from home is a part of the future of the workforce, how do you maintain productivity and team buy-in for hybrid and remote workers?
  • How is your company responding to workforce demands, specifically, how are they engaging employees in new workplace strategies? How do you create buy-in?
  • What drives the decision to mandate a return to the office? What are the best communication and motivational strategies to encourage workforce participation in the new policy?
  • How is FF&E repurposed, reused, or up-cycled in response to a reduced need for physical office space?
  • How are private/focus spaces created to accommodate workers reluctant to return to the office? Are there other infrastructural or physical space changes that respond to this reluctance productively?
