Alumni Spotlights
Congratulations to Andrea Williams for being admitted to MSU College of Human Medicine!

Andrea graduated in 2021 from the MSU College of Natural Science and Honors College with a BS in Human Biology. As an undergraduate student, she was very involved. Her activities include working as an office assistant and volunteering as a peer mentor for the Drew program, serving as the president and secretary of the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., and maintaining membership on NatSci's Student Advisory Council. These are just a few of the ways Andrea engaged as a student. Throughout her college experience and beyond, she has invested hundreds of hours in community service, volunteerism, clinical experience, and professional and career development.

Andrea will begin her first year as a medical student this fall at MSU CHM. For her, clinical public health is very important, both locally and globally. One of her goals is to create an international health system in disadvantaged areas that treat patients for little or no cost and to globally increase patient learning.

Andrea shares her thoughts on Drew Scholars:

"I am forever grateful for the support Charles Drew Science Scholars has provided to me. From the Freshman seminar programs, to the informational workshops, Drew has prepared me for not only medical school but for life. I truly value the program's "Circle of Support" initiative and core values. I greatly appreciate the Drew staff and would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Caldwell and Ariel for being great mentors and always uplifting all Drew Students."
Congratulations to Drew Scholars alumni for matching during 2023 Match Day!
Bernie Barden

Bernie graduated from MSU NatSci during the Spring 2019 semester with a BS in Physiology. He followed his dream of becoming a doctor by attending MSU CHM for medical school.

The next step in Bernie's medical education and career is as an anesthesiology resident at the University of Michigan.
Ronald Roseman

Ronald Roseman graduated from MSU NatSci during the Spring 2016 semester with a BS in Physiology. He continued pursuing this dream goal of practicing as a medical doctor as medical student at MSU CHM.

Ronald will continue his training as a physician resident in family medicine at the University of Rochester.
Tatiyana Harris

Tatiyana graduated from MSU NatSci during the Spring of 2019 with a BS in Physiology and minor in Spanish. She followed her dreams of goals of becoming a physician at MSU CHM as a medical student. She will continue to grow her education and practice in her residency placement at the DMC-Wayne general surgery training program in Detroit, MI. Following that experience, she will continue on to Wayne's anesthesia residency program in Pontiac, MI.

Tatiyana's personal goals include furthering her martial arts training and competition, and training her newest puppy to become a therapy dog, and planning her wedding to her fiancé, Chris.

Tatiyana shared her thoughts about Drew Scholars below:

"Drew was extremely helpful in preparing me for success. Their advisors, tutors/coaches, and faculty in general have been very supportive throughout my undergraduate and graduate career, specifically Dr. Caldwell, Ariel Robbins, and Dr. McHerron.

The professional development classes, networking opportunities, and introduction to research were extremely helpful. Additionally, having the opportunity to return to talk and teach to Drew students was important for further developing my public speaking skills and continued networking. Dr. McHerron was my academic coach throughout medical school. His help developing my study skills, crafting a study plan, and general support were vital to my academic success!"
A Moment in Science
Well done and congratulations Calcea and Ne'Kiya!
New proof for Pythagorean Theorem introduced by two high school seniors!

St Mary's Academy high school seniors, Calcea Johnson and Ne'Kiya Jackson, have done what many academics deemed impossible!

Pythagoras's theorem was historically proven as a2+b2=c2 yet the pair has shown that the theorem can be proven using trigonometry.
