Project Grow: Cultivating Wellness and Community

Our medical students had an incredible time at the College Night thanks to the partnership between Boca Raton Museum of Art and FAU College of Medicine!

They explored exhibitions, got hands-on art activities, and enjoyed engaging talks. Eva Corrada, M1 and Leah Leidy, M1 had an opportunity to chat with Associate Curator Kelli Bodle about holography and drawing in Matthew Schreiber's exhibit. Artist Sri Prabha also shared insights on his exhibit, blending Vedic philosophy and science.

Congratulations to Akshay Tangutur, first year medical student at the Schmidt College of Medicine!

Akshay recently participated at the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons 2023 Annual Meeting & Resident Competition, where he presented and received an award for best Oral Presentation.

Akshay also had presentations at two prestigious national conferences in 2023:

The Pediatric Interest Group and AMSA hosted a blood drive on October 31, 2023 that resulted in 35 units of blood. Each donation can save up to 3 lives so that means 105 patients could benefit from the lifesaving efforts of blood donors from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. Thank you to everyone who donated. Go Owls!

These sessions were supported by medical student volunteers and amounted to 2,150 hours of direct support for these students through HCOP.

At FAU College of Medicine, our commitment to nurturing our community's youth is unwavering. Our staff, medical students, and faculty collaborate to provide hands-on, enriching activities aligned with public school standards. These activities aim to boost confidence, enhance professional skills, and offer insights into the path toward higher education.

Let's celebrate the impactful contributions of our HCOP student leaders and continue supporting our youth in their journey toward success! Zeynep, Miguel, Sarinya, Lama, and Ishan, your dedication inspires us.
