Teacher Education Career Fair is March 6

The Teacher Education Career Fair is being held on March 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Iowa State University Alumni Center. With over 80 employers from across the nation attending, students can meet with district representatives to learn more about their hiring needs. There will also be onsite interviews with hiring agencies. A poster is available for download here and this link can also be shared with students to let them know about this opportunity.


Early childhood lecture to feature Dr. Jennifer Rosinia

The Barbara Hansen Lecture in Early Childhood Development will feature Dr. Jennifer Rosinia. Part of the ISU Lecture Series, The Neurobiological Basis of Trauma-Informed Care is an excellent opportunity for students, faculty and staff. By understanding the neurobiological basis of trauma, early childhood professionals will be uniquely positioned to provide trauma-informed care that is developmentally appropriate and fosters resilience. The lecture is on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union and will also be live streamed.



New exhibit to celebrate opening on Feb. 27 at the Textiles and Clothing Museum


The Textiles and Clothing Museum is celebrating the opening of FASHION / EXISTENCE / MYTH - narratives about health, the body, and the fashion system on Monday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Mary Alice Gallery. The event will offer the ability to explore the exhibit, light snacks and a brief lecture at 4:30 p.m.

CHS Graduating Student of the Semester Award nominations due Feb. 24

The Human Sciences Council is accepting nominations for the CHS Graduating Student of the Semester Award. The award honors graduating seniors. Faculty, staff and students are all welcome to submit nominations for this award. Learn more and nominate


Apply by Mar. 1 for international activities funding

for AESHM, FSHN and HDFS faculty

Two international travel funds will accept applications from faculty until Mar. 1. The Julia F. Anderson International Fund offers of three $1000 awards to be used toward enhancing or upgrading the professional qualifications of home economists or to enrich and enhance faculty by bringing an international perspective to Iowa State. The Donna L. Cowan International Fund in Family and Consumer Sciences offers a $500 award given to support faculty international travel or to support an international scholar visiting the AESHM, FSHN or HDFS departments. International activities must commence between April 1, 2023, and Oct. 31, 2023, to be eligible for the awards. 


Foreign Travel Grant applications accepted until March 3 at noon

Applications for this academic year’s third and final round of Foreign Travel Grants will be accepted by the CHS Dean’s Office until Friday, March 3, at noon. This round covers travel starting dates from June 1, 2023 to Jan. 31, 2024.


Foreign Travel Grants are available for travel in one or more of the following categories:

  • Long-term research projects in a foreign location
  • Research of short duration or collaborative efforts, often involving several related activities such as lecturing, graduate student recruiting, fund-raising, etc.
  • Presentations at foreign conferences
  • Faculty exchanges

Heddleson Junior Faculty Grant applications due April 1

College of Human Sciences Junior faculty from any academic program are invited to apply for a Heddleson Junior Faculty Grant. Up to $5,000 is available for a total of two awards. These grants are intended to encourage new faculty members to incorporate Human Sciences Extension and Outreach efforts into their projects that are targeted to families in Iowa counties. Have lunch - dine-in or to-go - at the Tearoom!


The Joan Bice Underwood Tearoom is open for the Spring semester. Guests can reserve their lunch spot using the online reservation system for dine-in. To-go orders can be emailed to tearoom@iastate.edu by 9 a.m. the day you'd like to pick up. Walk-up to-go orders are also accepted between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or until food is out. This week's special

is oven-fried chicken, Delmonico potatoes, peas, muffin and

carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

United by Cardinal and Gold is about student leader and elementary education major, Erin Lowe, and The Resilient Advocate (scroll to bottom of page) is about Alexandra Abraham, a student in event management. Human Sciences Extension and Outreach Specialist, Malisa Rader, shares tips in How to Help Kids Cope When the News is Scary.
