SFAC Art Along Market Street: Poster Series & Pop Up Art Shops in Kiosks
The latest SFAC Art on Market Street series featured Market Street in comic-styled pieces about how "Different People, and A Pigeon, Each Navigate San Francisco's Iconic Market Street," while the series has completed its run, you can still see some panels on the SFAC site and the new poster series is coming soon. Also along Market Street, SFAC is working with JCDecaux, who operates the newstands kiosks along Market Street, to bring local artists and their art to customers -- check out who pops up at the locations on Market and 6th and 7th streets.

Livat Readies to Open Sooner Rather Than Later: Spring 2023!
The anticipated opening of the IKEA mall (Livat) at 945 Market St. has been moved up to this spring, as early as May, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The paper is also reporting the mall will open a "multilevel food hall spanning the ground and second floors," later this year. Also in the works for the space: various retail stores, restaurants and office space.

Better Market Street Construction Updates
Better Market Street Phase 1 Construction continued, with the completion of potholing on Market Street, the removal of 27 trees (21 in poor condition, 6 conflict with planning -- this is after they took steps to protect 90 other trees along this corridor). Bicycle detours continue along Market Street, and current work includes installing soil cells under tree basins to promote healthy trees and roots, and electrical work for the new traffic signals being installed between 5th and 8th streets. Please note (as the image to the left shows) that crosswalks may at times be temporarily closed and during this they will provide alternate crossings with temporary, ADA-compliant ramps and protected, 5 foot wide walkways on both sides of the construction zone to allow for safe passage across Market.

Governor Newsom Moves 469 Stevenson Project Ahead
A new state law recently signed by Governor Gavin Newsom is streamlining the apartment building process (for all housing proposals valued at $15 million and above) -- and the first City project this applies to is 469 Stevenson: "The governor has given 469 Stevenson the green light to become a state Environmental Leadership Development Project."

New Supportive Housing Opens
"A new oasis for San Francisco’s formerly homeless has just opened on Mission Street," starts the San Francisco Chronicle article about 1064 Mission. Now housing "256 of the city’s most vulnerable, who can get much-needed mental health support, job training and community events on-site," it continues. The housing is co-operated by Mercy Housing and Episcopal Community Services (ECS).

Bart Substation Updates
As one of five new substations, Civic Center station has recently seen the refill of the street level hatch that was created to put the power station in below street level, and as of late February are working on the "auxiliary water main and fire hydrant which is located below the SFMTA bus boarding island at 8th & Market Street (eastbound lane). This work is taking place at night (10pm to 5am) to accommodate demolition of a portion of the boarding island. Work will take approximately 6 weeks to complete." They're also working to remove stored materials from the chain-linked area near the former Chase Bank. The latest updates can be found here.

Two Great Art Events
District-based arts organization Root Division, which provides studio space to artists and provides classes to adults and youth, is hosting their annual culinary fundraising event TASTE, which features 20 local chefs making artfully inspired bites and cocktails on April 27, tickets on their site.
Also Hospitality House, a multi-program agency for those experiencing homelessness and other socioeconomic issues, is hosting their annual art auction starting April 27, with the bidding ending at their event on May 3; more info and tickets on their site.
