Hello,

We're excited to introduce the first issue of the Wasatch County Connector—your go-to source for updates from Wasatch County.

This year has already been marked by significant milestones:

  • Property Tax Relief: The income limits for Low-income Abatement and Homeowner’s Tax Credit have been increased by 50% from the State of Utah’s current limit.
  • Conservation Efforts: Nearly 100 acres have been preserved using open space bond funds through conservation easements placed on the Pear Tree Llama Farm in Midway (up to $750,000) and the Holmes Family Dairy Farm in Heber City (up to $1,000,000).
  • Memorial Hill: A committee has been established to set eligibility criteria and timelines for adding names to the memorial.

We're committed to keeping you informed and engaged with the issues and updates that matter to you in Wasatch County.

Memorial Hill:

Honoring Wasatch County Veterans

Since 1927, Memorial Hill in Wasatch County has commemorated more than 2,400 names of local residents who served in United States military conflicts from 1812 to the present.

The Wasatch County Council recently established a Memorial Hill Committee, along with criteria and timelines for adding names to the memorial each year.

Eligible veterans must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Resided in Wasatch County at the time they either joined the military or were deployed to a conflict.
  • Resided in Wasatch County following service for a period of at least 10 years.
  • Resided in Wasatch County for any length of time and were awarded a Purple Heart.

Applications must be received by March 31 to be considered for this year’s addition.

Wasatch County Prioritizes Property Tax Relief for Seniors

More Wasatch County property owners will now be eligible for property tax relief. In January, the Wasatch County Council voted to raise the Low-income Abatement and Homeowner’s Tax Credit income limits by 50% from the State of Utah’s current limit.

“We regularly see people in our office with income levels that exceed the state’s limit, and yet still struggle to make their property tax payments,” Wasatch County Treasurer Amber Gibbs said. “By raising the income limit, we can provide much-needed relief to more people who wouldn’t otherwise qualify.”

The Council worked closely with the county offices responsible for administering and collecting property taxes to identify this opportunity to provide tax relief and will continue to collaborate with these offices to assess and refine the program as needed.

“The Council recognizes that the challenges of rising housing costs are statewide, not just here in Wasatch County,” Wasatch County Council Member Luke Searle said. “We are committed to taking steps here within the county to offer property tax relief, and also encouraging the Utah Legislature to invest in and expand tax relief programs and to partner with local governments to support residents in need.”
