ECA Regular Membership Meeting - September 20, 2023


The membership will be reconvening our regular membership meetings this September 20, 2023, for a luncheon meeting.


The luncheon program will feature industry updates and a guest presentation from Kyle Krueger, Director, NECA Codes and Standards. Providing a high-level overview, exploring the inspiration, history, and development process of NECA’s library of standards, the NEIS®; highlighting the latest additions to the NEIS® library, NECA 5-2023.


This presentation will also focus on the benefits of implementing performance workmanship standards into engineering, design, and installation processes.

Director, NECA Codes & Standards

Kyle Krueger has worked in the Electrical Industry since 1997 as a Journeyman Wireman, Electrical Inspector, and Educator. Krueger currently serves as Director of Codes and Standards for the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). Kyle holds a Master Electrician Licenses, Commercial Electrical Inspector License, and Design Engineer of Electrical Systems, he is also certified thru NFPA as a Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP).


Kyle currently represents NECA on the National Electrical Code’s® Correlating Committee and Code Making Panel-3, as well as the Correlating Committee for The National Fire Alarm Code® (NFPA 72). Krueger serves on NFPA’s Electrical Section Executive Board and as the Assistant Secretary of NECA’s Codes and Standards Committee.

NFPA 70B: Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance

(Joint Safety Forum Session)

This presentation focuses on examining some of the major changes that took place during the monumental shift of NFPA 70B from a recommended practice to a standard. In addition to how the recommendations became requirements, we will examine the impact that this document has the potential to make on safety for electricians in the field. This presentation will also explore how the electrical contractor can utilize NFPA 70B for guidance to customers on how to care for their electrical infrastructure after the installation has been completed.

NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace - Refresher Overview

(Session Only for NECA Contractor members)

This class keeps attendees current on the information gained in the standard 70E. In addition to a review of standard electrical safety principles, attendees are brought up to date on the changes in the latest edition of the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, which is revised every three years.

INSTRUCTOR: Derek Vigstol, e-Hazard

Derek Vigstol is an electrical safety consultant for e-Hazard Management, LLC. He is a master electrician licensed in the state of Minnesota but has spent the last decade of his career training and educating electrical industry professionals on all things NFPA electrical codes and standards. Derek started his career in training at the Minneapolis Electrical JATC by training apprentices and pre-apprentices. During his time at the JATC he had the opportunity to compete in the NEC Challenge Championship sponsored by NFPA and upon becoming the first national NEC Challenge champion had the opportunity to transition to an internal subject matter expert role at NFPA. Derek spent the next several years in various positions at NFPA assisting in the development and support of NFPA electrical codes and standards. His role as the senior electrical content specialist was involved in several technical projects such as NFPA training, NFPA certifications, and NFPA Handbooks just to name a few. After transitioning to e-Hazard, Derek spends most of his time working in the electrical safety space training qualified electrical works, auditing facilities, and developing electrical safety programs for clients. Also in his spare time Derek is an author for Cengage publishing and has contributed to several of their electrical titles. Derek also contributes to several NECA publications such as Electrical Contractor and Safety Leader magazines.
