This month’s life skills program and presentation is provided by Hope Rudzinski, Community & School Outreach Coordinator, Office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr, Worcester, MA. Hope has been working at Office of District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr since January 2022, while she graduated from Nichols College in Dudley, MA in 2020 as an English major and Communications minor. Her favorite part of being in Outreach is connecting with the students, parents, and the community of Worcester County on a personal level and providing them with helpful and positive resources to make good choices. It is very important that we are educating youth and their parents to make sure they’re aware of healthy relationships, bullying, and staying safe online because their own personal lives and social lives are heavily intertwined. She will conduct a safety and awareness program on Cyber Safety. Some topics she will cover are bullying, cyberbullying, laws against bullying, how to stay safe online, how to protect your information, how we are affected by social media, laws against sending and receiving explicit pictures and more. This very important program will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at 3:30. This program is for registered after school members only. An email with more details will be sent to parents and guardians. If you are interested and have not received the email, please call the center. This will also be a program that requires advance sign ups and commitment.

In collaboration with the Milford Regional Medical Center and Nadine from Connected and Inspired, the MYC will resume the Nutrition program on April 11th at 3:30. We are very excited to bring the importance of nutrition and the knowledge of making no-bake snacks for the kids who choose to participate. We also want the children to learn that this is something they can make for themselves! We’ve had a huge interest in this class in the past and hope to maintain the popularity by keeping it fun yet educational, while enforcing healthy-eating habits.

Thank you Brian Bell!

This month’s gratification post is dedicated to longtime volunteer of the Milford Youth Center, Brian Bell. Brian has been a part of the Youth Center for over 10 years! Brian is known for volunteering for our boxing program but many people may not know that he also dedicated time for months prior to the renovation to help move all of supplies, equipment and furniture to either storage lockers or into the temporary location, along with the Director Jen Ward. Since the completion of the renovation, from 2016 to present, Brian has volunteered over 112 hours for our boxing program alone, with hundreds more prior to! Brian's long history with boxing makes him an exceptional teacher of this sport, the Youth center is lucky to have him. “Chef Brian”, as he refers to himself as, teaches the children that boxing is not for the fight but for the discipline. Brian was trained by Coach Pablo Ramos beginning in the Natick and Framingham area. Brian is a boxing coach with over 52 years of coaching and boxing experience. The goal of the program is to teach self-confidence, respect, and discipline with an incredible physical work out. His personal hope is for the students to see their progression from their hard work in the program!
