Student Spotlight

Laura Hansford ’23 Honours Specialization in Social Justice and Peace Studies (SJPS)

After starting her undergrad at King's in 2017, Laura switched her major to SJPS “to gain a better understanding of the roots of injustice in society and how to become an active participant in change.”

Laura did her placement with Antler River Rally (ARR), gaining experience in environmental justice. She represented ARR at different events and organized a river cleanup at King’s with the SJPS Club’s support. "The SJPS program prepared me to critically reflect and experience my placement at ARR with increased complexity and depth," she says.

Laura remains at King's and is in her foundation year of the two-year Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Her time with SJPS and placement with ARR "has given me an incredible foundation as I prepare to enter my first placement for the MSW program."
