Dog cruelty case that made national news is solved by tip to CrimeStoppers

The crime was extreme cruelty to an animal. It happened at night but was caught on surveillance video operating at a nearby business.

The man beat and dragged a dog and twice threw it over a pedestrian bridge on Crump Boulevard. The animal died.

Scores of people were angry and upset. They called police, radio stations, and newspapers. It made national news.

Then someone called the CrimeStoppers tips line, 528-CASH (2274). The tipster thought he knew who the criminal was. The tip led to identifying a teenager first as a person of interest, and then as the suspect.

Police arrested Christopher Triplett, 18. Motivation: not yet known.

The tipster will be awarded for helping in the case at the next CrimeStoppers Awards Committee meeting in early April with a cash payment days later.

Tickets now available for 12th

Suspect in burglary of motorcycles

also is caught thanks to camera

It was the night of December 17, 2024 when several suspects shattered the window of Moto Nation, a store at 2691 Mt. Moriah and stole eight motorcycles worth about $82,000.

The business’s cameras caught the event and a video of the suspects was released to the public, running on TV stations.

On December 21, a tip was called to CrimeStoppers. The tipster recognized one of the suspects. Leevoice Johnson was positively identified in a photo lineup and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Johnson was found and transported to jail for burglary of a building. He had been arrested twice before for burglary, and also faced robbery charges in the past.

Police continue to work the case and hope to identify the other suspects. So far, $23,714 in property has been recovered in the case.

The tipster received an award of $600.

Cold cases site helps detectives

A new website provides information on numerous cold-case homicides.

A Cold Case is an unsolved felony crime awaiting the discovery of new evidence. It is a case that was suspended after the initial investigation for lack of leads but remains an open file.

It is a case that sometimes may require a new set of investigative eyes, and the aid of the public.

It is CrimeStoppers’ strong belief that in every crime someone knows something — it could be a seemingly small detail — that could be enough to lead to a solution — and justice for the victim and the victim’s family.

CrimeStoppers here offers a series of Cold Case files for public consideration. To provide a tip, call or text CrimeStoppers: 528-CASH (2274).
