Inverness Community Alert
September 26, 2022
The Inverness Police Department would like to make you aware of recent events that have taken place in and around our Village. The Inverness Police Department is asking for your help to apprehend these criminals and prevent future crimes.

Since mid-July 2022, Inverness and our surrounding communities have seen several attempted and successful house burglaries, both ruse type and forced entry. These subjects continue to return to our towns and commit these crimes.

Below are images of our #1 person of interest in several forced entries. The subject knocks on doors before breaking in and usually has at least one other accomplice. They have forced entry through front doors, back doors, and windows.

The Inverness Police Department is asking for everyone to call 9-1-1 if this subject or someone dressed in similar attire knocks on your door. The subject may indicate he is leaving a vehicle on the street, fixing a water issue, tree trimming, etc., and request you step outside. Shut your door and CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY so that Inverness Police Officers can apprehend these suspects while they are still in the area.

These criminals are not necessarily parking a vehicle nearby. Previous camera footage often shows the subjects walking away toward the direction of other houses or empty fields, possibly headed to their vehicle parked on the street behind your residence.

There are several ways to prevent these types of crimes and protect potential victims, first and foremost being community awareness, installing cameras, setting alarms, and sign-up for vacation checks. We ask residents to spread the word and call 911 immediately regarding any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles in the community.

Burglary Prevention Tips
The following are several Burglary Prevention Tips:
  • Call 911 for any suspicious activity! This includes someone coming to the door and giving you information that is out of the ordinary (we are parking our trailer on the street tomorrow. I need you to go outside).
  • Lock your windows and doors, even when you leave briefly, are outside on your property or inside your home. Keep your garage doors closed.
  • Trim shrubs and bushes to eliminate hiding spots, and never hide keys outside.
  • Consider getting a monitored alarm system with audible warnings to scare intruders away.
  • Don’t announce your vacation or trips on social media.
  • If you have a camera with audio, use the feature to answer the door without opening the door.
  • Keep your home a lived-in look if you go away for an extended period. Have someone check your residence; the police department has a vacation watch program for this reason.
  • Don’t leave anything valuable in your car; always lock the doors. Key fobs left in the car is the #1 way a vehicle is stolen.

Most important is Call 911 for ANY suspicious activity immediately! Please describe the person/vehicle as they may be parked or on foot in the neighboring area.
