A Note from Ms. Carr & Ms. Teague |
Greetings,
It has been another great week. We can’t believe there are only a few days left of school. Our counseling lessons have been going well. Don’t forget to ask your student “what do you want to be when you grow up.”
We continue here with our mental health awareness month theme. This week we want to mention some points regarding talking about mental health. It can be hard to talk about mental health. Some tips to starting the conversation are:
For Parents and Caregivers
It can be hard to talk to your child, dependent, or person you are caring for about mental health problems. Get tips for starting the conversation.
For Friends and Family Members
Anyone can experience mental health problems. Friends and family members can make all the difference in a person’s recovery process. Learn how to support your friends and loved ones as they look for help with their mental health problems.

We have amazing students and they have made so much progress this year. They should be so proud of themselves! I look forward to seeing everyone back in August and I hope you all have an awesome summer.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Warmly,

2023-2024 Athletics
It's that time of year where you need to start thinking about getting your sports physicals for next school year. Sports physicals for the 23-24 year must be dated after April 1, 2023. Athletic physicals, as well as other necessary document, must be uploaded into planetHS before students are allowed to participate in athletics.
Before getting your physical you want to make sure you are academically eligible to participate. Here are the academic eligibility requirements from the SCHSL:
To participate in interscholastic activities, students in grades nine through twelve must achieve an overall passing average and either:
- Pass at least four academic courses, including each unit the student takes that is required for graduation.
or
- Pass a total of five academic courses.
Students must satisfy these conditions in the semester preceding participation in the interscholastic activity, if the interscholastic activity occurs completely within one semester or in the semester preceding the first semester of participation in an interscholastic activity if the interscholastic activity occurs over two consecutive semesters and is under the jurisdiction of the South Carolina High School League.
Academic requirements for students enrolled in the seventh and eighth grades, including first semester 9th graders are:
- Students passing the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades by academic promotion pursuant to district policy are considered as having met the requirements for academic eligibility for first semester.
- Students in grades seven and eight must be meeting the school district promotion policy at the end of the first semester in order to be eligible for the second semester. (Second semester ninth grade students must meet League academic regulations.)
- A seventh or eighth grade repeater shall not be eligible during a school year if academic requirements for promotion were met during the previous year.
- A student who previously failed the seventh or eighth grade is eligible during the second semester if he/she has satisfactorily passed first semester work.
If you have any questions regarding athletics at Riverwalk Academy please contact Mr. Ball at rball@riverwalkacademy.com
