DCTC masonry instructor surprised by coworkers on last day |
CAMBRIDGE — On his last day of teaching at the Dorchester Career and Technology Center, Masonry instructor Eddie Bailey wasn’t the only one sporting a baseball cap, grey sweatshirt and jeans.
More than 10 of his coworkers showed up and showed out in Bailey’s well-known uniform. Some of his doppelgängers even brought their own fake metal detectors — a hobby of Bailey’s.
After eight years teaching at the Career and Technology Center, Bailey is hanging up his trowel and picking up his metal detector.
“You know, I love metal detecting, so I’ll probably go find the Holy Grail or something,” he said about what he will do in his retirement.
When Bailey came in for his last day of teaching, right before winter break began, it took a little while for him to figure out what his coworkers had done.
“I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, something don’t look right,’” he said. “Then, when I saw the metal detectors, I was like, ‘Ohh, they got me good!’”

6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Open Dance
Founder Binny Olsen developed Open Dance out of her love for dance and her deep gratitude for the emotional and physical healing it provides individuals and communities. While the program will be held weekly each Thursday, there is no commitment to attend every week. The evening is free to attend, refreshments will be available.
The guest instructor for week 1, January 11, will be Morgan Hunsicker(she/they). Morgan recently graduated from The Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz and Contemporary program. While at Joffrey, she also completed several semesters of her Dance BFA degree at NJCU. Having attended the Joffrey Program, Morgan has been professionally trained in many genres of dance such as ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, Latin jazz, street jazz, partnering, and modern. She has assisted with Joffrey rehearsals and has taught at Eastern Shore Dance Academy. Morgan is currently in rehearsals for Les Fêtes de Thalie with Opera Lafayette which will premiere May 3rd-4th at the Kennedy Center in DC.
As an informal, non-professional dance program, Open Dance encourages people of diverse backgrounds and socio-economic status, ages 17+, to experience dance on several levels. The evening will be divided into three parts: The first hour is performance. Dancers who wish to perform bring their own music for a 2–5-minute act, as individuals or groups. The second hour is where a dance is taught. The last part is the dance party. This will be developed as the program moves forward, but this is the starting layout.
Let's dance!

From January 4 through February 25 the Main Street Gallery in Cambridge will be showing the works of their member artists in a special show called “Serendipity”. Happy surprises await visitors to this show.”
Hours for “Serendipity” are Thursdays through Sundays from 11-4pm. Two Second Saturday events are planned for the show.
