Communities That Care

Happy New Year! Our Communities That Care Coalition had a very productive 2024 and are full steam ahead for the new year. We are focused on expanding Positive Youth Development (PYD) trainings for our community by offering more frequent trainings and targeting specific groups that work with youth but historically haven't been offered PYD. Our coalition is also preparing to hold some focus groups around Social Hosting to help inform the creation of a community education campaign on this subject.

Do you know what Social Hosting is? For a lot of us it is a brand new term, but a centuries old practice.

Social hosting is when an adult allows minors to consume controlled substances, like alcohol or marijuana, on their property. Social hosts can be the owner, renter, or person in charge of the property where the event takes place. In Colorado we have a Social host statute that holds social hosts responsible for underage substance use. The goal of this law is to reduce underage drinking or drug use by making it illegal to provide an environment where minors can consume controlled substances.

Mountain Youth is now partnering with Move With Me Books!

Move With Me Books is a literary movement that engages readers through mindful movement, breath, and mindfulness

Move With Me Books (MWMB) is the holistic health approach to transform children’s literary experiences. They curate unique lesson plans that bring picture books to life through movement and breathing. MWMB aims to reach the visual learner by highlighting each illustration, the auditory learner by listening to the words of the story, the kinesthetic learner by moving along to the pictures, and the neurodivergent learner by providing options to look, listen, and move.

Their vision is for the next generation to feel peace.

Move With Me Books engages children to embody stories through movement and breath. It gives them tools to be mindful in an increasingly distracted world. Get your holiday wiggles out through the classic story- Twas the Night Before Christmas on our YouTube Channel.

You can also visit their website and check out their YouTube channel to see more!

You can also donate to them by mentioning MWMB when making a donation for CO Gives Day!
