Hello, organizing clients and friends!
One of the many benefits of the organizing process (categorizing, decluttering, containing and labeling by category) is that you know exactly what resources you have on hand and exactly where they are located.
Pop quiz! Can you find each of the following important items (that apply to your home) in under a minute? Bonus points if all the teens and adults in your household can also find these items without your help!
- Phillips-head and flat/standard screwdrivers, hex key set
- Unexpired batteries: AA and AAA, plus button batteries for key fobs
- Light bulbs, including appliance bulbs for dryer, oven, fridge
-
Fire blanket or extinguisher: check gauge to see it’s properly charged
-
Working flashlight or battery-powered lantern for a blackout
- Work gloves for moving heavy or sharp items, changing a tire, etc.
-
Passport, social security card, and birth certificate for each family member: consider a fireproof, waterproof pouch for safe storage
- Last year’s tax returns
- Wills and notarized power-of-attorney documents for family members
- Extra pair of prescription glasses, essential medications
- Extra set of house and car keys
- Extra phone charger block and cable, portable charger power bank
- Extra cash
If you can’t immediately lay your hands on important items, that’s a good sign you might need a home organizing tune-up. Onward and upward!
