The Lee College Foundation has received a $750,000 grant from the Greater Texas Foundation and Trellis Foundation to launch a new program to help incarcerated students complete their college degrees and certificates once they are released from prison. The “Pathways from Prison to Postsecondary Education” project offers individuals leaving the justice system a chance to pursue educational opportunities at the college’s Baytown campus that will lead to living-wage jobs.
Lee College is one step closer to establishing a new branch campus in Mont Belvieu. 2024 is a huge year for us as Lee College turns 90 years old! On Feb. 24,1934, residents in the area voted to 538 to 198 to create a college which would soon become Lee Junior College. The doors officially opened on Sept. 3,1934 with 177 students enrolled in the first class. Our milestone anniversary will be featured front and center in the next edition of "Polaris" magazine in February. Also, we will be sharing some fun facts about the evolution of Lee College throughout this year. Click here to read more about Lee College's history.
We have a wonderful update on employee Titan Tullous. He received his new prosthetic leg just in time for the holidays. During the fall semester, the Student Rotaract Club raised nearly $10,000 to purchase the prosthetic for the Lee College Hall of Fame graduate. This recent photo of Tullous standing was taken by Cheryl Donatto with the Baytown Sun for a feature article in the Sun's February edition of "Greater Baytown" magazine.
