President's Message

Dr. Blake Boggess

Dear AOASM Friends,

Thank you for attending the 38th AOASM Annual Clinical Conference! On behalf of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine's Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Conference Planning Committee, we are excited to have you join us in our long-awaited return to Anaheim, California. We look forward to being together and enjoying a good time learning, teaching, sharing ideas and just having fun.

The AOASM has been involved in a lot of great projects lately.

The AOASM is excited to co-sponsor with the AMSSM and ACSM for the Advanced Team Physician Course in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dec 6 - Dec 8, 2023. Our Executive Committee and Board of Directors have approved the decision. The AOASM Board also recommend and the Executive Committee approved, Jeff Bytomski, DO, FAOASM, FAMSSM, to be the representative from the AOASM.

The AOASM participated with the AOA for a sign-on letter in response to the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed rule banning the use of non-compete clauses in employment contracts. The rule would designate the use of such clauses as an unfair method of competition under the FTC Act.

The AOASM is also trying to collate and put together as complete a history of osteopathic sports medicine as we are able. This effort is led by the amazing Kate Quinn, DO, FAOASM. We want to be able to share our roots and history with our osteopathic sports medicine colleagues and trainees moving forward. We would like to collect interviews and written memories of how we got to where we are now in our profession. You can assist by gathering any stories or memories of the legends of osteopathic sports medicine and sharing them with a member of the AOASM Board of Directors.

We are excited to see you in Anaheim!

Blake

SAOASM Update and Upcoming Events

Written by: Trent Griner, SAOASM National Chair

Hello everyone and happy April! Our student section has had a wonderful academic year and we are looking forward to rounding it out with a great conference experience in Anaheim! Students, now that we are approaching the Clinical Conference and the transition from one academic year to the next, it is time for this year's SAOASM elections! If you are interested in getting involved at the national level as a student member of AOASM and did not attend our information session on the afternoon of Thursday April 27th at the 2023 AOASM Clinical Conference in Anaheim, California, we will have a virtual information session on Wednesday May 3rd. Please continue to monitor your email and the SAOASM Facebook group for details and links. Additionally, AOASM annually presents awards to both individual student members and student chapters for their work during the year. These awards and how to apply for them will also be discussed at the virtual information sessions.

I cannot say enough good about AOASM as an organization and the incredible value of being taught and mentored by its wonderful members. I encourage all students to attend one of our information sessions and consider getting involved! I hope to see all of you in Anaheim!

Yours Osteopathically,

Trent Griner
