We hope you had a great time in Cleveland if you attended the AMTA National Convention! Hopefully you learned a lot and connected with other therapists from around the country!
We are so glad we had a great turnout for the Chapter President's Dinner at the Cleveland Hofbrauhous. We hope you all enjoyed connecting with fellow WI Massage Therapists as much as we did.
Chapter Volunteer Take-aways from convention:
I have been an AMTA member for the past 20 years. It was an honor and privilege to represent the state of Wisconsin while in Cleveland. I met so many wonderful and outstanding colleagues from all over the country. Attending the convention has inspired me in many, many ways. I am deeply committed to serve you as a chapter member and fellow colleague, to inspire you to embrace our profession and the service work we all have in common and finally to ignite our connections with each other! Let us together make our Wisconsin chapter a community of support, authentic connections, superior education, while having lots of fun. - Kathy Ginn, Delegate
I have been a massage therapist since 2010, but I am new to volunteering with AMTA. I am the Communications Committee Chairperson, focusing on the website, social media, and this newsletter. This was my first AMTA National Convention. I met so many people from other states, got to know others from WI, took some great CE classes, and had a blast! I also headed over to Cleveland a few days early with Kathy (Delegate) and Debbie (Board Secretary and co-social media person), and we attended the AMTA Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program (also known as CVOP). In that 2 day program, we learned more about the ins and outs of AMTA as a national organization and also on the local level. We all came back to WI with new found and renewed enthusiasm and ideas to better serve you, our fellow members. - Jessie Rupnick, Communications Committee Chairperson

Message From Our Delegates
|
|
The AMTA National Convention was held in Cleveland Ohio August 24-27, and I, along with Kathy Ginn had the honor to represent Wisconsin at the annual meeting of the Assembly of Delegates (AOD).
The AOD is made up of one or two elected volunteers from each AMTA state chapter and the District of Columbia. Our role is to represent the members of our chapter and their concerns with issues that affect our profession including government ordinances, public relations, licensing, and education.
Normally the AOD meets in person once a year to debate and vote on position statements that have been submitted by members and chapters throughout the year, vetted by an Advisory Committee and discussed on a virtual platform by the delegates. In 2020 the AOD vote resulted in the creation of a national Volunteer Engagement Committee, which will provide resources and coaching for Chapter Leadership to encourage and train new volunteers.
This year the AOD met in person for the first time since 2019 but did not have a position statement to vote on. The discussion focused on the role of the Chapter Delegate, Delegate responsibilities and communication between Delegates and their chapter volunteers and members.
My personal take away from these discussions is that I can help bridge a gap within our chapter by simply attending more of our chapter government relations & communications committee meetings. I encourage all members whether or not you are currently interested in volunteering to do the same just to see what is going on and to meet other members. All committee meetings are virtual and the times and dates are listed on the AMTA-WI website.
Most importantly Kathy and I want to hear your thoughts, ideas and concerns. We hope to meet many of you at our next in-person education conference to be held at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel & Convention Center in Oshkosh January 20-22, 2023. The education opportunities will be as diverse as our membership and offered for only $5/CEU. Save those dates! Feel free to contact us anytime at marthakarban@gmail.com or Kathy@ethicaldimensions.com
Thank you for affording us the opportunity to go to Cleveland and represent Wisconsin.
Yours in service,
Martha Karban,
AMTA-WI volunteer, Board member, Delegate
