Florida-bred Leinster Filly One of Three Fastest Quarter-Mile Works on Second Day of OBS Under Tack Show

A Florida-bred filly from the first crop by Pleasant Acres Stallions' Leinster was one of three juveniles to fire a :20.40 quarter-mile work Friday during the second day of under tack programs previewing the Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale. Also on Friday, a filly by Caracaro was the lone 2-year-old to breeze a bullet :9.60 eighth mile.

Bennett Taking Another Shot at Long Sought Tampa Bay Derby With Naughty Rascal

Trainer Gerald Bennett tries to check off a long-held goal Saturday with Naughty Rascal in Saturday's Grade 3 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby. The Florida-bred colt will face six other 3-year-olds going a mile-and-a-sixteenth in Tampa Bay Downs' marquee event with a $400,000 purse including $50,000 in Florida-bred bonuses presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association. The race also offers 105 Kentucky Derby qualifying points allocated on a 50-25-15-10-5 basis.

Florida-breds Take Top Billing Into Hurricane Bertie

Florida-breds Spirit Wind, Nic's Style and R Disaster are listed as top contenders in the program for the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie, a six-and-a-half-furlong test for seven fillies and mares at Gulfstream Park Saturday. The $165,000 purse includes $15,000 in Florida-bred bonus money presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.
