Title Review: Library Staff

"They started following the moon and soon discovered

what they were looking for was each other."

Gold Mine Processing Associate Janis Tedrow recommends The Dog Who Followed the Moon by James Norbury.

When I initially got the illustrated children's book, The Dog Who Followed the Moon, I had my six-year-old granddaughter in mind. But as soon as I started reading the book, I realized it is not only a book for children, but a book for everyone.

The two animal characters are the puppy, Amaya, and the old wolf. They come together under unusual circumstances and compassion. While searching for her parents, Amaya, was attacked by a pack of wolves. An old wolf from the pack had a change of heart and saved Amaya from all the others. The wolf and Amaya began a journey together without understanding the destination.

They started following the moon and soon discovered what they were looking for was each other. As they embarked on this journey and embraced this adventure together, they learned lessons about the endurance of life, the meaning of love and the fact that what you do gives meaning to life...

Book Beat: Student Book Review

Hi! My name is Kire.  I am in 6th grade, and I love to read, play volleyball, and play my viola. For my Book Beat review, I read The Lost Year by Katherine Marsh.

The Lost Year is a historical novel that I would describe as a page-turning story about family and survival. The book is about a 13-year-old boy who lives during the Covid 19 pandemic with his great-great grandmother.

When Matthew’s Nintendo gets taken away from him, he is forced to look through old boxes that belong to his great-great grandmother.

In these old boxes, Matthew finds all sorts of things, like an old photo, that makes him want to learn about his great-great grandmother’s past. Through photos, journals, other things, and his great-great grandmother explaining everything, Matthew slowly learns about his great-great grandmother’s crazy past.

He learns that she used to live in Kyiv, Russia, during the Holodomor, which was a famine from 1932 to 1933, and that she had two other cousins. He also learns his great-great grandmother’s secret that she had kept to herself since 1933...
