October in the nursery - Owner Robert L. waters plants | |
October is always an exciting time in the nursery. Autumn's milder climate lends to ideal planting conditions, and most plants, especially natives, are in high demand.
For your butterfly garden, we currently have a healthy number of California native milkweed, Asclepias fascicularis, in stock in 1-gallon. Native pollinator plants Ceanothus, Epilobium canum, Eriogonum, and many others are in bloom; these can attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees to your October garden.
For companion plants, consider nectar sources like Lantana, Monardella, and Salvia. (If you like to sow from seed, you can also plant native wildflowers this time of year - see our Garden & Landscaping section for more on planting from seed and seed saving.)
October is the ideal time to plant trees, shrubs, and perennials adding color, contrast, and texture to your landscape. Our fall sale features select 5-gallon plants at discounts up to 40% off while supplies last; see our Featured Plants section below for details.
What are you planting this autumn? Share your thoughts over on our Instagram, and follow us for the latest updates from our nursery.
Thank you for being a CWN customer and helping to support our small business. Please let us know how we can be of added value as you plan out your fall garden.
Wishing you a plentiful season,
Jane
