March 2023

So many members, so little time left for our seasonal members...We are working diligently to get events put together and out to all of our members!

We have great volunteers making arrangements with courses and venues so our members get an opportunity to get out there and play! There are lots of ways to participate: one of the 5 Leagues, Social events, Education events...and we are always looking for volunteers...so we can continue to host some great events.

Remember to bookmark the SWFL LPGA Amateur Chapter’s calendar so you stay up to date on all our events.

We are beginning to solicit Sponsorships for the chapter as well. If you know of a business that would benefit from exposure to 300+ women like you, let me know and we will reach out. We have amazingly loyal member who are happy to shop at companies that advertise with us!

February Event at Whiskey Creek - Oh What a Day!

What a beautiful day to play golf at this fun and challenging course arranged by our own Carol Mirando!

Check out the picture-perfect blue sky in facebook pictures posted by Patty Gift.

We had 36 players selecting only 5 clubs and a putter from their bag of tricks. The WCCC staff went above and beyond to make the day special for us and the food afterwards was outstanding.

A big shout out to the volunteers who make these events run so seamlessly: Sandy Candito, Joyce Donahue, Patty Gift, Kerstin Koenig, Peggy Meyerowitz, & Peggy Wagner - thanks so much! And, Jennie Taylor was also present to take pictures on the course.

We raffled off 2 Rounds of Golf for 4 people to Joyce Donahue & Lin Hartnett. We also handed out 2 cash raffle prizes to new member Kathy Gross and to Lin Hartnett.

And the golf winners are:

1st Low Net with a 57: Kerstin Koenig

1st Low Gross with a 76: Carol Mirando

2nd Low Net with a 61: Nancy Campbell

2nd Low Gross with a 78: Nancy Budd

3rd Low Net with a 64: Paula Congiu

3rd Low Gross with a 79: Peggy Meyerowitz

Closest to the Pin:

#13      No one made the green

Closest to the Line and within inches - Mary Valpey

Congrats Ladies!!

Next Up: Bringing back the Sugar Bowl!

Mark your calendars for this fun, multi-chapter competition to be held Saturday, April 1st in Clewiston, FL.

This will be the 1st time in 3 years to hold this event and it's shaping up to be a good turnout with ladies from Palm Beach, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Treasure Coast and Lee/Char signing up to play in this 2-person team scramble.

Pride is on the line as the SWFL chapter hopes to claim the Sugar Bowl cup once again (we are the current holders of this famed cup)! It will be a 10 am shotgun start at a cost of $75 which includes Golf, Taco Bar Lunch, Cart Attendant Tips and Prizes.

Watch your inbox for the registration opening announcement and sign up quickly. NOTE: Registration and payment are through Golf Genius for this event.

SOCIAL & EDUCATION

Thanks to the 40 people who joined us at Quail Run for the entertaining Rules & Etiquette seminar on February 9th, we appreciate your support!

Hopefully you all learned something you may not have known, or were gently reminded of, so keep up the good work in researching and asking more experienced players if you’re unsure of a rules situation. None of us were born knowing all this stuff!

COMING UP!

We are finalizing details for 3 upcoming events you won’t want to miss, so please check your email regularly for event announcements.

Registration System - EZ Facility

While our SWFL Full-timers are now familiar with our new registration software, it will feel a bit different for our returning Snowbirds.

Everyone will want to bookmark our Master Calendar which contains all upcoming events/play dates and is updated frequently:  LPGA Amateurs SWFL Event Calendar

Each event will have a CLICK HERE link that takes you to the registration page for the event and provides further details about the event. When you click on that link, the system will ask you to sign in with your EZ userid & password and then will ask you who you are registering (usually Yourself unless you are registering a guest).

Then, you'll be taken to the event information page which is also the registration page. But you'll only be able to register for the event when registration is open - 7 days prior to day of play and closes 3 days prior to play.

If registration is closed, you'll see this message in red at the top of the page:

Online registration is closed. Please see below or contact the administrator

for more information, as other registration options may be available.

Once you register for an event, you'll receive a confirmation email. Please save this email for your records. There will be a $10 administration fee for refunds associated with duplicate registrations.

Please refer any questions related to the calendar of events or registration to Michelle Riordan @ mrriordan77@gmail.com

GHIN + Handicap Index

Our chapter offers an easy way to sign up for a GHIN #.
Every member should have a GHIN # and post all scores to establish a Handicap Index.
Please note that going forward, while any chapter member may play in a monthly event, only members with a VERIFIABLE GHIN # and Handicap Index will be allowed to compete for awards.

To get your # please contact Kerstin Koenig

kerstin@variety-travel.com

Post, Post, Post!!

Volunteers - Apply Here!

It's time to start thinking about Summer Leagues. We have people lined up to handle the registration setup and all the 'systems' work. But, we have a need for a few folks who would be willing to contact courses and request play dates.

We have an extensive list of courses and their contact info so if you'd be willing to help in this area, please reach out to Michelle Riordan @ mrriordan77@gmail.com.

Thank You to our SWFL Chapter Sponsors
We Appreciate Your Support

Club Up & Stay in Rhythm

Not taking enough club is a common error for golfers. It’s why shots often come up short or you overswing so much that you end up hitting a poor shot.

When you are hitting a shot longer than 80 yards from the green, take one more club than you think you need.

The confidence that comes from knowing you have enough club should create a smoother more rhythmic motion.

Important SWFL Chapter Reminders!

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellation received before event registration close date: Refund, less $10 admin fee

Cancellation received after event registration close date:    Non-refundable

Chapter Event Cancellation:  Full refund/credit issued

Please note that we closely track Tropical Weather and league coordinators work closely with the courses to determine if a golf event should be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather. The determination will be made & communicated the day prior to the event and if cancelled, you will be issued a 100% refund or a credit for the rescheduled round.

We do not typically cancel for general rain forecasts because in Florida it may or may not impact the course being played.  If you have rain / weather concerns, call the Pro Shop for course conditions but note that for a 100% refund, golf event cancellation must be made by the event coordinator.

*Request for Cancellation should be sent to the league/fun play event coordinator *
