American Academy of Pediatrics
Research shows that one in three females and one in 20 males will experience sexual abuse/assault by the time they reach age 17. These acts of sexual violence are perpetrated not only by adults but also by peers. It is important, therefore, for pediatricians and pediatric health care providers to discuss consent with patients and families during well-child visits.
