Yarn Fun with Glenna Stroh

During the end of the Fall session of MBX's After School Enrichment at Pacific Elementary, the students learned how to sew a button onto fabric, decorate their work with embellishments, stuff, and hand sew using a running stitch. The students are quick learners, each having their own little individual style.

BANDS & GUARD

Bands & Guard closed out an exceptional season with three jam-packed weekends of performance and competition. First, Marching Band & Colorguard traveled to the WBA Grand Championships in Fresno, earning the 2nd highest score in Music Ensemble out of 36 groups in Saturday’s Class Championships, ultimately finishing 5th in Sunday’s finale–Costa’s highest placement at WBA Grand Championships ever. The team, then, marched in two parades to kick off the holidays at Manhattan Beach Village and PV Parade of Lights. The Winter Concert showcased the hard work and semester-long dedication of three concert ensembles, the jazz band, and a revival of the Symphony Band. TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING

Hello from the Cybersecurity Club!

We have been continuing through the Cyberpatriot competition, recently completing our second round and continuing to our state rounds this weekend! Once again, each one of our team achieved outstanding results.

In this second round, the goal was to secure three virtual computers (running three different operating systems) and complete a Cisco Network Challenge (an online quiz and a virtual networking exercise ). The following results are a combination of our round one and round two scores and determine skill-based competition placement.

  • Team One placed in 141th place, landing them in the 94th percentile
  • Team Two placed in 605th place, landing them in the 83rd percentile
  • Team Three placed in 247th place, landing them in the 93rd percentile

If you’re interested in joining the Cybersecurity Club, we meet every Wednesday at lunch in Room 112 (Mr. Selmi’s room). New members are always welcome, and there’s no experience required.

BASKETBALL - BOYS

The Mira Costa Boys Basketball program secured three tournament wins last week, and all four teams are off to an impressive start this season.

Varsity improved to 10-0 after defeating Lakewood in the Bellflower Tournament finals. Bryson Bryker earned MVP honors, with Christian Kranz and Mac Bedner named to the All-Tournament team.

Junior Varsity also has a 10-0 record, winning the Da Vinci Tournament with a 66-56 victory over Santa Monica. Alex Van Fossen was named tournament MVP.

JV2 stands at 7-1 after recent wins over El Modena (61-27) and Blair (117-22). They aim to extend their streak in their next game at Venice.

The Frosh team secured an exciting 42-41 victory over Cypress to win the Bolsa Grande Tournament. Jimmy Bedner’s clutch free throw, with 11 seconds to spare, sealed the game and Blake Johnson earned MVP honors.

RUGBY - GIRLS and BOYS

Our Girls’ Rugby team is almost halfway through its season as the players continue to show resilience and determination standing at an even 6-6 record after three successful tournament weekends in San Diego! Competing against tough opponents, the team has demonstrated both strength and adaptability on the pitch, balancing victories with hard-fought matches. The team continues to refine their skills and foster strong bonds. Come support the Girls’ team in January as they host two tournaments at Waller Stadium on January 11th and January 25th (both from 9am to 12:30 pm).

The Boys’ team kicks off the official start of their season on December 14th with a varsity match against Fallbrook High School.
