Faith Works Sermon Series

For James, faith works. Our faith is not merely an intellectual or emotional endeavor but one that involves movement and practice. Lent is a season of reflection and spiritual experience. During Lent, historically, we practice spiritual disciplines that focus us on Christ that they might develop us into becoming more like Christ.

For Lent this year, we want to reorient our hearts and minds on Jesus by taking a note from James in developing a faith that works.

Sunday, March 16: Gratitude/Generosity

Biblical gratitude is a core virtue that acknowledges and expresses thanks to God for His many blessings. We are called to give thanks in all circumstances, seeing God’s love and mercy in every situation we find ourselves in. Gratitude isn’t a feeling; it’s a cultivated discipline of mind that involves intention and effort. When we appreciate all that we have been given, we become more open-handed with all that we have. Gratitude is a way of working faith that reorients our hearts, minds and hands and allows space for the Spirit to transform us into being truly generous reflections of our generous God.

Daily Prayers, Digging Deeper Guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum are available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (for this week and ALL previous weeks) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

LENT IS HERE! Check out our Resource Wall for books and study suggestions, and grab a Weekly Wondering Kit on Sunday.

Much like our Advent Calendars, Weekly Wondering Kits contain short daily prompts and activities to help us engage the season and sermon themes for each week. Make sure to pick one up each Sunday at church!

Adventure:Kids News

This Sunday in Adventure:Kids, our lesson will focus on Romans 15 and how we can bring glory to God by loving and accepting others, just as Jesus welcomed everyone. We'll learn that no matter our differences, we are called to live in peace, encourage one another, and share the good news of Jesus with those who haven't heard it yet.

Key Passage: "Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." - Psalm 96:3

We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Sermon notes and challenges for families are available on the Adventure:Kids Facebook page, OR click here for a pdf version.

Adventure:Equip

Sundays at 9:00am

Adventure: Equip is how we seek to dig in further to learning and practicing what we believe. These classes aim to prioritize understanding the Word, our theological beliefs, and spiritual practices. Our aim is not just to understand more, but study together and practice alongside one another so that our lives can be transformed.

Join us for our special Lent Equip class that all are invited to in the Worship Center Classroom. This class will include some art appreciation/education as we work our way through some of the art pieces featured in Sister Wendy Beckett’s wonderful devotional, “The Art of Lent.” There will be videos, some basic art appreciation instruction, a devotional, some discussion, and even coloring pages for us to really soak in this Lenten season. We hope you (and your kids/families) will join us! 9:00 am on Sunday Mornings during Lent.

Don't worry if you haven't heard of some of these yet...

put them on your radar and know more details are coming!

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!

He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!

Revisitng this poetic prayer from our Ash Wednesday Service as we continue into Lent:

"God of dirt and dust, we come to You and sit in the midst of Your mystery.

There is much we do not understand about the world and You, the One who made it.

We cannot pretend to comprehend life and death.

Instead, we marvel at Your great love—a Love that breathed into dirt and dust, and formed us, body and soul. You even became human Yourself, taking on the weight of our humanity.

We come to You aware of the times we have pushed away, neglected, or ignored our need for You.

We find comfort in Your loving presence, even when we have shut You out and refused to acknowledge our lack and our need.

We are fully human—we know this full well.

God of the Dust, we praise you for being a Maker who is capable of dreaming up glory from dirt. As we journey through this Lenten season, help us to remember our origin story and find ourselves deeply grounded in bodies made from the lowest part of creation, yet alive with gloried breath from the divine."

God is Good!

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.

To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:

What Good have you witnessed recently?

What Good has God brought into your life?

What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?

God is Good!!
