2024 Gold Humanism Summit speakers Dr. Mick Krasner and Dr. Ruby Mendenhall answer "8 Questions"
“8 Questions with…” is a series spotlighting members of the Gold community.
What is one book you’d recommend to patients and/or fellow clinicians?

There are so many great books that I have loved, and I know colleagues and patients would love, too. So, I must choose one, right? Well, one among many is Abraham Verghese’s first book, My Own Country...
What do you think is the most urgent threat to humanism in healthcare?

I think that one of the urgent threats to humanism, specifically scientific excellence, is the limited collaboration with the general public as citizen/community scientists in understanding trauma and cultural practices that help to prevent diseases...
We’re thrilled that Drs. Krasner and Mendenhall will be speaking at the Gold Humanism Summit, February 29 - March 2 in Atlanta! We'd love to see you there. Register now.
Did you miss Dr. Kathleen Reeves' radio show appearance on the January 18th episode of "The Nurse Practitioner" podcast? If so, the episode is now available for streaming by Sirius XM radio subscribers for a limited time.

The series is hosted on Doctor Radio, a SiriusXM station, by Gold Trustee Dr. Eileen Sullivan-Marx, former Dean of NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing.

Happy listening!

Gold Student Summer Fellowships:
🔸 improve the health and lives of traditionally underserved populations
🔸 focus on enhancing cultural humility in delivering care
🔸 encourage collegial and interprofessional teamwork
🔸 are designed and implemented by students
🔸 promote a lasting or systemic change

The deadline to apply is March 18.

Visit our website for more information on eligibility, selection criteria, the review process, and application materials.
The 2023 cohort of Gold Student Summer Fellows were creative, inspired, and committed to making a difference.

For medical student Mary Finedore, of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, her fellowship experience was full of emotion and meaning, and it was surprising in the best way.

Mary's project focused on creating resources for LGBTQ+ youth aging out of foster care.

Coming up: Thank a Resident Day and Solidarity Week
As we gear up for February's Thank a Resident Day and Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care, we don't want you to miss out on the opportunity to celebrate with us!
February 12 to 16
During this special week, GHHS chapters, medical and nursing schools, and patient care institutions across the world create activities to showcase their commitment to humanistic care for all.
February 23
This celebratory day takes place each year on the last Friday of February to collectively show appreciation for residents and fellows and how integral they are to the healthcare team.
Learn more about Solidarity Week and Thank a Resident Day, share your plans with us, and download 2.5 x 8 banners. The PDFs can be printed at your local print shop or an online shop like VistaPrint and hung up as part of both celebrations.
NEW GOLD RESOURCE LIBRARY SPOTLIGHT: The Gold Resource Library features many diverse collections categorized by theme, format, and audience. This month, we are spotlighting the Patient Perspectives Collection, which offers information on Tell Me More ® and other initiatives that highlight the important role patients — and their caregivers — play in their healthcare.

The Gold Foundation will be part of Medallia’s Experience conference in February, which will highlight the latest innovations in Experience management technology. We hope you will join us!

Together, the Gold Foundation and Medallia, a member of the Gold Corporate Council, have crafted the Medallia Gold Humanism Trust Tool, which is designed to help identify humanistic, compassionate interactions and foster communication and trust between patients and clinicians. The tool is being piloted now, and we look forward to sharing more with the Gold community at Medallia’s conference in Las Vegas, Feb. 5-7, and at the Gold Humanism Summit in Atlanta, Feb. 28-March 2.

Medallia is offering the Gold community a special discount of $200 off registration! Use code PNTEXP24LOVE to reserve your spot.
