On August 10, homes, buildings and the harbor in Lahaina are burned to the ground after wildfires swept through Maui.

When we selected our Legacy Forest site, one of the criteria was to be in an area with heavy rainfall (wet things don’t burn) and to be far away from people (as people cause more than 90% of all forest fires in the United States).


On the map of Hawai‘i Island above, our forest site is located approximately around the red X near Honoka‘a, in a white area of low concern.
