Science Update: Terms to Know

Science Update: Terms to Know - Clinical trials jargon

To continue our effort in unpacking the scientific, sometimes daunting jargon that is used throughout the AS community, this week we will clarify terms often used in clinical trials.

It’s important to understand the difference between interventional vs observational clinical trials, phases, and groups – and then how endpoints, biomarkers, outcome measures are all important in order to understand if a therapeutic is effective.

Community Spotlight: Skating Angels

A photo of a hockey player posing, hockey pucks with the Skating Angel logo, and other equipment

Earlier this month, the Skating Angels Hockey Tournament took place, where 8 teams competed in a fundraising event in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Danielle and Jeff, parents of Bruce, who lives with Angelman syndrome, took their love for hockey to help raise money for FAST.

The Skating Angels’ tally is over $34,500 in 2023 so far. Much of this was contributed in honor and remembrance of Bruce’s uncle and Danielle’s brother, Greg Williams, who was the biggest fan of the Skating Angels and a huge supporter of the AS community.

Thank you for your commitment to FAST!

FAST is the only 4-star AS organization on Charity Navigator

The Charity Navigator Four Star logo

FAST is proud to be the only US-based Angelman syndrome organization that has the highest ranking on Charity Navigator, the 4-star rating!

Community fundraising through our Cure Angelman Now (CAN) campaign is critical to supporting FAST’s mission. We understand that asking for money is not always easy, and everyone’s experience with fundraising is different.

This 4-star rating designates FAST as an official “Give with Confidence” charity, indicating that our organization is using our donations effectively based on Charity Navigator’s criteria. Charity Navigator is America’s largest and most-utilized independent charity evaluator. Since 2001, the organization has been an unbiased and trusted source of information for more than 11 million donors annually.
