Do What Brings You Peace and Happiness

Looking out the window at the flowers blooming and the trees budding, it’s clear that it is FINALLY spring! After what seems like such a long winter – metaphorically and literally – signs of renewal are everywhere. And almost in the blink of an eye, it will be graduation for students whose lived experiences with us have been unlike anything they or we could have imagined.

Before we close the door on this year and focus on what lies ahead, I hope we all take a moment to reflect on what all we have lived through, learned, accomplished, and experienced. Let's thank those who have held us up, inspired us, counseled and been vulnerable with us. They have helped us believe in ourselves as educators, as learners, as leaders, and as a university that is striving to live its values every day. Once again, we have been shown that this isn’t easy, but the paths forward are more recognizable as each day passes.

We look forward to coming back together in the fall and wish everyone a safe summer doing something that brings you peace and happiness.

Best wishes,

Marilyn Amey

Assistant Provost for Faculty and Academic Staff Development

Goodbye SIRS,

This summer MSU is launching the new Student Perceptions of Learning Survey (SPLS) to replace the Student Instructional Rating System (SIRS) and Students’ Opinion of Courses and Teaching (SOCT) surveys. SPLS will offer a better user experience for instructional staff and students by providing more consistency in the survey process while also offering more autonomy at the college and academic program levels.

2022-2023 All-University Awards Recipients

The Office of Faculty and Academic Staff Development is proud to share the slate of 2022-2023 All-University Award Recipients. Those selected for the William J. Beal Outstanding Faculty Award, Teacher-Scholar Awards, Excellence-in-Teaching Citations, Distinguished Academic Staff Award, Simmons Chivukula Award for Academic Leadership, Community Engagement Scholarship Award, Robert F. Banks Award for Institutional Leadership, President’s Distinguished Teaching Award, Donald F. Koch Award for Quality in Undergraduate Teaching, and Faculty Emeriti Association Award for “Outstanding Contributions by an Individual or Team of Faculty" are indicated on the provost’s honorifics website.

These internal awards are an integral part of recognizing the excellent work of MSU’s faculty, academic specialists, graduate students, and executive leaders. The work of each award selection committee to review all of the exceptional nominees and participate in a discussion on recommendation of recipients are vital to this acknowledgement. The time and commitment that these faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, academic specialists and academic leaders put into these committees is nothing short of extraordinary, and for that, we thank them tremendously.

We look forward to the annual All-University Awards Convocation on Monday, May 8, 3:30-5:30 pm at the Kellogg Center to formally recognize these outstanding award recipients.
