The Lord’s Blessing Food Pantry may be small in structure, but it is mighty in outreach. With the help of RSVP volunteer the pantry served 78 new individuals during the month of February, logging 92 hours. A large portion of these hours were serving folks affected by the train derailment disaster in Columbiana County. The pantry is open T-F 10-2pm for folks living in the area. They also partnered with the Salem Salvation Army to provide water and food on the ground in East Palestine.

The wonderful volunteers from the Brimfield Community Cupboard serve their neighbors in need with food pantry support. This is a 100% volunteer managed site with nearly all those serving being RSVP volunteers. Did you know that in February, 17 active volunteers at this location along gave over 400 hours of service; supporting the cupboard two days a week and some weekends. We are incredibly proud of all their hard work!

One of our volunteers, Charla, is growing these baby seedlings for our partner station, Mosaic Church (located in Beavercreek). As we start feeling spring in the air, there is quiet excitement in our partner stations, like Mosaic, which has a community garden. Under the seasoned gardener’s leadership, their volunteers carefully plan their new season every year, put effort and time into caring for the plants, and share the fruits of loving labor with their clients. They don’t have a big lot, but their yields are solid (930 lbs. from last season alone!), and we are grateful that our volunteer is part of such an essential service.

A couple of weeks ago, I had an opportunity to introduce myself to an agency serving the greater Dayton area, the Food Bank (located in downtown Dayton). They have a sunny garden like Mosaic Church, but their greenhouse greatly excited me. They use hydroponics in their greenhouse, growing fresh vegetables year-round. As a major food security agency in the area, they certainly do more than their share.

Whether small or big, a community garden is a beautiful place to serve!
