On Thursday, May 11, a wonderful group of volunteers from Keller Williams Realty Denton, with the help and guidance of our Build Committee volunteers, spent the day painting another vintage Habitat home in Denton in need of a fresh coat of paint. This was our second Brush with Kindness project of the spring season, thanks to the work of our awesome volunteers, especially our project leader, Mark Gribbin, who we highlighted in the previous newsletter. Having been built in 2002, this home needed some extra prep work before painting could begin, including power washing the entire exterior, and our volunteers got it done! They also took the time to paint the home's shed and playhouse in the backyard.
Our Brush with Kindness program mobilizes volunteers to provide exterior home maintenance assistance to low-income homeowners. It addresses a critical and often overlooked need: After years of deferred maintenance, homes fall into disrepair. Under this program model, homeowners are eligible to participate in Brush with Kindness based on factors such as the condition of the home, income, and a demonstration of challenging circumstances such as disability, illness or age that prevent them from doing the work themselves. Qualifying homeowners contribute sweat equity by working side by side with volunteers to complete the work if they are able.

Keller Williams Realty Denton has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of Denton County for the past 7 years on their annual "RED Day." The entire Keller Williams company - from the U.S. and Canada to abroad - sets aside the second Thursday of May to Renew, Energize, and Donate within the communities they serve. This year, the Keller Williams Realty Denton team graciously served with our Brush with Kindness program, mentioned above.
At the heart of Keller Williams' culture is their shared commitment to community service. The immeasurable generosity of their teams enables them to care for their own as well as their neighbors, no matter the magnitude of what is needed. They've poured into their communities in a number of ways, initiating service projects like building new homes from the ground up, gathering and distributing food to those who need it, organizing relief efforts when a natural disaster hits, and even spreading joy and raising funds as only KW can when life takes an unexpected turn. These are just a few of the community activities they've carried out in support of those who have poured into them.
We are honored to have their consistent support in building and repairing homes for deserving families in our local community. Thank you, Keller Williams Realty Denton!

When driving along West University Drive in Denton recently, you may have noticed the construction happening on our front building. That construction is proof that our administrative offices remodel is progressing smoothly and steadily! As seen in these photos, our Build Committee volunteers have also put in countless hours of their time, effort, and expertise into building a storage building that will house many tools and materials needed for building our affordable homes, saving us thousands of dollars. We are all hands on deck to get this remodel completed by the end of this summer! Thank you for your support during this time of transition for our administrative staff. Meanwhile, the ReStore remains open and ready to serve our shoppers and donors!

As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
