Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by embracing the rich diversity that our Rondout community represents. Whether your cultural or religious beliefs include a special celebration, there are so many ways to honor our different traditions and cultures during this festive time. Whether or not you light candles, exchange gifts, gather with loved ones, enjoy special foods and family traditions, the spirit of togetherness and joy is universal. Let us all work toward creating a winter season that is inclusive, meaningful, filled with light and love and peace.

Speaking of cultural traditions, we are currently planning a special multi-cultural learning experience for our students, and we will explore the rich culture and traditions of India at the end of February. If you share this cultural heritage, know of others in the community who do or are just interested in learning more, please reach out as we are looking for volunteers to assist us on this journey. We have the privilege of consulting with Happie Datt, a Lake Forest resident and one of the founders of the National Indo-American Museum. She has volunteered to assist us with making contacts in the community as we explore the many facets of India. This week-long event is tentatively scheduled for the week of February 26, 2024. We encourage parents and friends of Rondout to get involved as we bring this rich culture to life for our community. We will be sending out a short survey next week to recruit volunteers and will be having a planning meeting with volunteers early in January.

On another note, the 8th grade World of Work program will begin again after the new year. You may remember that we began this program last year to provide our 8th graders with opportunities to explore careers through field trips into the business, entertainment, financial, and technology worlds of work. If you would like to work with us to host a visit within your “World of Work” or if you have a connection to a host site, you can let us know on the Volunteer survey coming out next week. Visit lengths range in time based on the site and location.

Thank you for your on-going support and involvement.

Until next time
