Police Department - Firearms Permits
During the Police Chief's absence, from November 11 to the end of April, applications for firearm carry permits will be handled by Patrick Barry, whose phone number is 413-842-7825.

Applications may be obtained from the police department, the town clerk’s office, or by using the link below. Only include the affidavit attached to the application for renewals. Patrick will call you to schedule a half hour time convenient for you, to be fingerprinted and interviewed, if you are applying for a new license. Renewals do not require an appointment.

Submit your completed and signed application, including social security number, and affidavit if required, to the Richmond Police Department, either by regular mail, or by dropping it off at town hall, along with a check or money order for $100, made out to the Town of Richmond, for the processing fee. For those 70 years or over when the new license issues, the fee is waived.

Applications are generally processed within a week of receipt by Richmond. Then, if all is in order, the Firearms Records Bureau mails the new license to the police department, where it is then activated in the state system, and mailed to the licensee, along with their assigned PIN, for any potential purchases. The process usually takes several weeks. Once an application is submitted, there is an automatic grace period until a decision is made on a renewal. Additionally, there is an automatic 60-day grace period on all expired licenses.

Download application here.
