GGUSD Schools Host International Days

Monroe Elementary Language Academy and Hazard Elementary School recently hosted International Days featuring student performances, fashion shows, games, and beautiful displays featuring cultural traditions from across the globe.

GGUSD Board of Education Honors Employees of the Month

At its meeting this week, GGUSD's Board of Education honored our May 2023 Employees of the Month: Instructional Assistant II Dawn Newton who works at Murdy Elementary and Morningside Teacher Kaitlyn Tran-Le. Both of these employees exemplify the Garden Grove Way and do a great job equipping students with the academic and personal skills for lifelong success. GGUSD Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and all month long we will be highlighting AAPI staff and students on social media. GGUSD is proud of our diverse population and we love celebrating the culture and traditions of our communities.

GGUSD Elementary Students Show School Pride during Open House Events

Faylane and Carrillo elementary schools recently hosted Open House events and their excited students were eager to share their schoolwork with families. We know that family engagement is a key ingredient to students gaining the academic skills (Goal 1) and personal skills (Goal 2) for lifelong success (Goal 3)! We are so grateful to have wonderful partnerships with our families! #GGUSDPride

GGUSD Celebrates Better Hearing and Speech Month, School Lunch Hero Day

The month of May is designated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association as Better Hearing and Speech Month. In GGUSD, we have a fantastic Speech and Language staff who help students to better express, receive, and process communication, enabling them to meet Goal 1 - mastering academic skills - as well as feel better about themselves and their relationships with others (Goal 2 - personal skills). Thank you to the GGUSD Speech and Language staff for all you do!


The School Nutrition Association celebrates today May 5, 2023, as School Lunch Hero Day! Our Food Service staff do an amazing job providing nourishing meals to our students and are an essential part of our GGUSD family! Our Food Services team consistently support students' well-being (Goal 2) and provide a warm and welcoming climate on our campuses. Thank you to our GGUSD School Lunch Heroes who create, serve and support delicious school breakfasts and lunches as well as attend to students’ nutrition and overall needs each and every day! GGUSD Students Earn Medals in OC Pentathlon

Students at Bell and Jordan intermediate schools earned medals in the Fine Arts category during the Orange County Department of Education Academic Pentathlon.

Murdy Elementary Hosts Annual Gratitude Project Celebration

Last week, Murdy Elementary School sixth graders showcased the culmination of The Gratitude Project, a year-long exploration of researching the power of gratitude. After interviewing family elders and six in-class participants including Vietnam veterans, students responded through art and writing. Their reflections revealed a newfound respect for hardship and sacrifice, as well as developing a sense of personal gratitude. During the event, students shared their writing and art (Goal 1 - academic skills) reflections and the deeper sense of empathy and gratitude (Goal 2 - personal skills) that they developed throughout the project.

GGUSD Shows Support for Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! At GGUSD's Board of Education meeting, the Board, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents wore mental health awareness pins, provided by Board President Walter Muneton, to show their support. Mental Health is an important topic in GGUSD where we share a commitment to Goal 2 - Personal Skills - which includes supporting students' motivation, social-emotional wellbeing and ensuring our schools have a warm and welcoming climate and culture!
