This Thursday (2/13), all 400 representatives in the New Hampshire House will have an opportunity to save three lake-friendly bills that will be introduced to the house
floor with motions to kill them.
Our lakes need YOU to reach out to YOUR representatives before Thursday to let them know why they should OPPOSE the motions to kill these bills. Read more below about these bills and how to contact your representatives.
On January 29, the House Resources, Recreation, and Development Committee voted the following three lake-friendly bills “Inexpedient to Legislate (ITL),” meaning that the majority of the committee believes these bills should not pass.
-
HB 332: enabling multiple municipalities surrounding a lake to form a village district around the lake to protect and restore lake health.
-
HB 334: adding a section to the state comprehensive development plan identifying lake and river protection trends and proposing policies and actions to protect our lakes and rivers.
-
HB 422: increasing the penalty that the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services may levy upon anyone violating the Shoreland Water Quality Protection Act.
The votes for each of these three bills in favor of the ITL motion was 9-7.
