Compelling villains know how to leverage flaws to do great damage to superheroes. They do this with knowledge of their vulnerabilities and breaks in their armor. Daily battles with old tapes, our hot buttons, and ill-intentioned self-talk can prevent us from keeping hope pulsing through our veins. May the internal and external threats compel us to find our superhero hearts.

God's Blessings on

SunCoast MCC

Join us on Sunday, May 21st at 10 AM as we celebrate two of the many blessings we have received at SunCoast MCC.

The Pastors will be blessing the new Social Hall. We will also be honoring the 6th Anniversary of Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson as our Pastor.

The Board of Directors are planning a formal dedication service of the Social Hall for the near future.

Welcome our special guest musician Lisa Barbanera for a special Mother's Day Service on May 14, 2023 at 10 AM. Lisa Barbanera is a native of the Atlanta area. With a Bachelor of Music degree from Columbus (GA) State University and a Master of Music in Flute Performance from Florida State University, she is an active performer and flute teacher on Florida’s Suncoast. She was the piccoloist in the Florida West Coast Symphony (now the Sarasota Orchestra) for over fifteen years and has been a substitute musician for The Florida Orchestra and the Southwest Florida Symphony. For the past eleven years she has been the music teacher at Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School in Lakewood Ranch. Her interests and hobbies include reading, cooking, daily walks, progressive causes, and hanging out with her college-age son.

Unclutter Your Soul

Join us for Spiritual Practice in May (9, 16, 23 and 30), Tuesday mornings at 10:30. You can join either in person or virtually using the link below.

We will be using Trina McNeilly’s book by the same name.

She said, “Our minds and hearts are crowded...we stumble over unrealistic expectations of ourselves. Emotional pain, anxiety and everyday stresses are a constant “white noise” in our souls.”

With grace and humor, Trina helps us face some of the unnecessary mess of life in order to rise above it.

Let’s open the window, turn on the lights, breathe deeply!

Join Rev. Nancy for a time of prayer and sharing as we overcome the clutter of our souls! If you would like to purchase the book, you can order one from Amazon or see Kim. The cost is $15.

Welcome/Usher Team Meeting

The Welcome/Usher team is having a meeting immediately after worship on Sunday, May 14th. Current members and anyone who would like to join this very important ministry are encouraged to attend.

In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness month, we have chosen a novel that deals with the depression borne of grief. Despite the seriousness of the topic, in A Man Called Ove,  author Frederik Backman employs humor and sensitivity to show how engaging with those around us helps us move forward and find meaning following loss. A truly outstanding book! The zoom discussion will be Monday, May 15 at 7:00pm. The link will be in Staying Connected and on the website.

On Wednesday, May 31st at 6:30PM join us for a discussion to delve a bit deeper into the book "Hope and Other Superpowers" that we have been using during our current Worship series! This will be a one-night discussion in person and online via Zoom! Here’s a short synopsis of the book:

Overwhelmed by the news cycle and the state of affairs in our world? Author and Pastor John Pavlovitz has provided this book as a rousing and inspirational guide. Drawing from lessons of our favorite superheroes, Pavlovitz shows how we can band together, live more heroically and meaningfully and save the world!

“Hope and Other Superpowers” is an invitation to anyone hoping to be the kind of person the world so desperately needs: the kind who can save it. In other words: It’s an invitation to you.

The Church has a few copies of the book if you would like to purchase one. The cost is $10 each. See Kim or call the office if you would like a book.

Venice Pride, Inc is hosting a community night on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 5-7 PM at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Public Library in Venice, Florida. Nationally known LGBTQ activist Zander Moricz will give a presentation on "The State of Curly Hair."

Zander Moricz attracted global media attention last year, as he publicly challenged school and State restrictions stemming from the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In 2022, Zander was the President of his graduating class at Pine View School, a widely acclaimed school in Florida. He was also accepted to Harvard University. For his graduation speech, he was told that he had to censor his speech and to not refer to his LGBTQ activism. Zander worked around that with a very powerful metaphor, which he incorporated into his speech, about being discriminated against for having "curly" hair.

Moricz's charismatic speech instantly became viral and he was hosted in "Good Morning America" and other national news outlets.

Moricz was a previous recipient of the Venice Pride, Inc. scholarship. He is also the Executive Director of SEE Alliance (The Social Equity Through Education Alliance), a group involved in working with young people and energizing voters.

Join us for an enlightening evening with Zander Moricz, which will include time for questions and conversation.
