Hello SSEF Families, Alumni & Friends,
Jen and I would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended or supported our Winter Welcome event on Saturday. The evening provided us with a valuable opportunity to reunite with old friends, connect with our broader community and get excited about the upcoming season. A special thank you is in order for our dedicated sponsors, community partners, and to the amazing team families who volunteered or contributed silent auction items. Your contributions were instrumental in making this event a resounding success and will help support the SSEF mission throughout the season.
If you weren't able to attend, but would like to support the SSEF mission, you can make a gift here.
In the meantime, keep your snow dances going and see you on the hill soon!

|
Get ready to gear up for the winter season with our new jacket release for Devo, Alpine & Freeride athletes! Swing by the Pleasant Valley Library on Tuesday, November 7th from 5:00-7:00pm to pick up your jacket. We have done our best to anticipate athlete sizes, but jackets will be available on a first come, first serve basis. If you can't make it on Tuesday, we will be posting other options on TeamSnap.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our team mountain Snowbasin Resort and Snowbasin Ski Team Sponsors - Atomic, Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, UBS, Wheelwright Lumber, and Totti Button Ski Racks - for helping to defray the cost of our programing for all athletes. Also, a big shout out to our partners at Nordic Valley where our Alpine athletes get fast lap training for part of the season. Get ready to hit the slopes in style with our new jackets!

Keely Kelleher: A True Champion On and Off the Slopes
It is a privilege and an honor to call Keely Kelleher a personal friend. In a world of athletes who push the boundaries of their sport, Keely stands out as a true inspiration, not only for her remarkable skiing prowess but for the values she embodies and the impact she makes beyond the slopes. This month for our Town Hall, we were delighted to have her as our guest.
Keely's dedication and commitment to our sport are unparalleled. However, what truly sets Keely apart is her unwavering commitment to kindness and inclusion. In a world often marked by fierce competition and rivalry, Keely stands as a beacon of warmth and camaraderie. She understands that the pursuit of excellence does not require leaving others behind, but rather lifting them up. Her humility and approachability make her a role model not just for her achievements, but for her character.
In an era where being your best self is a constant aspiration, it is crucial to surround oneself with remarkable individuals who exemplify the qualities we aim to embody. I am honored to call Keely a personal friend, and I'm excited that we had the chance to sit down and connect with someone that embodies the core values key to our Snowbasin Ski Team program.
If you missed the Keely Kelleher October Town Hall, you can catch up here.
We look forward to seeing you at our next town hall meeting.

filming with Advice for Girls
|
Last spring, Coach Wynter had the opportunity to ski in the filming of Advice for Girls. “Filming for the Advice for Girls movie was such an amazing experience. I’ve never felt more empowered skiing than with this group of women. It was really special to get to film at my home mountain (Snowbasin) and show the crew some of my favorite spots. I hope everyone enjoys the film and feels empowered to take up space in the ski industry and in the mountains."
A showing of the film will be at Snowbasin during the Moose on the Loose Season Kickoff Party along with a rail jam, season pass printing and amazing food and drinks to get ready for Opening Day. The Moose is Loose takes over the Plaza and Earl's Lodge on Saturday, November 18thg from 12pm to 5:00pm.

Advice for Girls Film: Up-and-coming skier Addy Jacobsend knew that it was time to move forward from the “one woman is enough” mindset. She dreamt of the supportive words she wished she’d heard, penning advice to her younger self. The desire to share those words with as many women as possible grew from a journal entry into the Advice for Girls film.
Jacobsend hopes that the film’s advice from three generations of women in skiing will remind women and girls of all ages that they are worthy of success, allowed to take up space, and are extremely valuable to the ski industry.

fAs we approach the year end, many of our supporters are thinking about how they can give back, so we wanted you to know what is on our current wish list and provide some smart and tax-efficient ways in which you can support the charities you love, like the SSEF Snowbasin Ski Team.
Immediate Ski Team Need
For the 2023-24 seasonal year, our primary focus is on purchasing additional radios and avalanche beacons that will enhance both athlete safety and coaching staff communication.
Athlete Safety: The safety of our young athletes is our highest priority. Radios and avalanche beacons are essential tools to monitor and maintain their safety during training and events, especially given our outdoor environments.
Communication: Effective communication is key to ensuring that our coaching staff can coordinate and make quick decisions in response to any situation. Radios enable instant communication, and avalanche beacons can save lives in emergency situations.
Smart and tax-efficient ways to support the charities you love
-
Gift of Stocks or Appreciated Assets: Donating stocks or other appreciated assets, such as bonds or mutual funds, is a savvy way to support our team. Not only do you receive an immediate tax deduction for their fair market value, but you also bypass the capital gains tax that would typically apply from their sale.
-
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you are 70½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified charity like ours without it counting as taxable income. This can lower your annual income level and possibly reduce your Medicare premiums and taxes on Social Security income.
-
Grants from Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): If you have a DAF, recommending a grant to SSEF is a seamless process. You receive an immediate tax benefit when you contribute to your DAF, and you have the flexibility to recommend grants to IRS-qualified public charities of your choice.
Each of these alternatives to cash giving provides unique tax benefits while ensuring vital support for our mission to create an environment for local youth to be able to reach their potential as athletes, students, and contributing members of the greater community.
Your support, no matter the amount, will make a significant difference and allow us to continue providing a positive and enriching experience for athletes across all programs.
The Snowbasin Ski team is made possible by SSEF (EIN 87-0441931), a dedicated non-profit organization committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for young athletes in our community. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to participate in winter sports and experience personal growth through teamwork, commitment, as they build meaningful relationships along the way.
