Our Digital Navigation Program Success Continues!

Our commitment to empowering communities through education remains steadfast. Our Digital Navigation Program continues to thrive, equipping learners of all ages with essential technology skills and expanding opportunities for upskilling and employment. This ongoing success aligns with our mission to strengthen local education, ensuring that digital literacy remains accessible to the community we serve.

This past weekend, we enjoyed a full class of students learning the fundamentals of PowerPoint! We want to give a special shout-out to our guest teacher, Dr. Jean Paul Yafali of Pacific Northwest Webtors, for filling in at the last minute as our Digital Navigator for the afternoon. We also want to recognize the tireless efforts of our Community Outreach Liaison, Pastor Zippy, who works behind the scenes to ensure that our classes are well attended week after week!

Things were buzzing in our Youth In Tech room as students were introduced to the expanding world of data science. Digital Navigator Eric Hunter showed them real-world opportunities in data science with companies like Google and Amazon, followed by a basic syntax for answering business questions with SQL. Additionally, they were provided with opportunities to explore SQL and provide solutions to business problems.

And on their way out, many of our students stopped by our Food and Goods Pantry, a vital resource for local families, as it distributes non-perishable foods and household items. Thanks to the generous support of Amazon Fulfillment Centers SWA1 and SWA2, the pantry stays stocked year-round.

If you know someone in the community who could benefit from extra support, we warmly encourage you to send them our way. We believe everyone deserves access to necessities, and our doors are always open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Mission Africa-33309 1st Way South, Suite A100, Federal Way, WA 98003.

We are offering free Digital Navigation classes to African immigrant families and refugees. Additionally, our invitation extends to all community members eager to enhance their digital skills. Translation can be arranged for non-native English speakers, and laptops are provided for in-person classes.
