Northwest ISD launches Community Dashboard

Northwest ISD doesn’t believe a single-day, high-stakes assessment such as STAAR should define a student or school’s success. Our district focuses on personalized learning experiences and individual student growth. We’re here to help all students succeed, not just those who may excel at standardized tests.

What our families value also matters more to us than the aggregate results of standardized tests. That’s why we’re launching a new Community Dashboard, located at www.nisdtx.org/dashboard. This dashboard provides families and community members with direct data on topics our community tells us matter most. We’ll continue to update the Community Dashboard based on input from our community, and we look forward to working together with families to continue holding our learning process accountable by more than a single test.

Provide your input on future school calendars

As part of Northwest ISD’s calendar creation process, the district requests families and staff provide input for the format of the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 calendars. The input survey asks each respondent to select their preferred calendar and provides an option for written suggestions.

Both calendars feature the same Wednesday, August 14, 2024, start date as well as the same date ranges for winter and spring breaks. Differences between the two calendars can be seen below.

  • Calendar A: Thanksgiving break lasts the entire week for students (staff may use flex days on the Monday and Tuesday of the break). This calendar option most closely mirrors the current 2023-2024 calendar.
  • Calendar B: Thanksgiving break lasts Wednesday to Friday to provide an earlier summer break, with school ending Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

After reviewing feedback, trustees are scheduled to vote for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 calendars at their Monday, January 22, school board meeting. As a reminder, based on family feedback, new school times will go into effect in August 2024 to add enough time to absorb two additional days of school closures in the event of inclement weather.

To view the options, provide input and obtain more information, visit this webpage. The calendar input survey closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 6.
