Welcome New WDB YouthBuild Grant Case Manager,

Nick Bartolotti!

A Little About Nick:

"Hi everyone! My name is Nick Bartolotti, and I am the new Case Manager for the YouthBuild Grant. I'm looking forward to working alongside the team in order to make a big difference in these participants' lives.

"I have a background in sales working at Spectrum, which may seem surprising, however I found that the Customer Service skills I have established while working there have greatly improved my ability to connect and communicate with the youth enrolled in our program.

"I am grateful for the opportunity provided to me, and I will utilize it to its fullest extent to create a comfortable and creative environment for all in this program."

Spotlight on Apprenticeships

Program Participants at MVCC's CNC Machining Lab

Pre-Apprenticeship Programs Help Prepare Individuals to Enter Registered Apprenticeships

The Advance 2 Apprenticeship Program (A2A) provides universal design training to individuals with and without disabilities to prepare for a Registered Apprenticeship.

Throughout the program, the students have been working on Power Skills such as effective communication, professionalism, and problem resolution. Thus far, all of the students have completed and received their OSHA10 Certification.

Recently, the students got to craft ball peen hammers at the MVCC CNC Machining Lab and received a tour of Riverhawk. Students are currently preparing for Interview Day with companies including Wolfspeed, Danfoss, and Indium.

The WDB's Regional Apprenticeship Development and Readiness (RADAR) grant project has assisted the students in obtaining appropriate interview attire to help ensure success at job interviews. The students will end their experience with career exploration with MVCC's Virtual Reality Oculus and a graduation stipend from RADAR.

Real Life Rosies' Program Introduces Women to Manufacturers Techniques and Procedures

The Regional Apprenticeship Development & Readiness (RADAR) grant project is pleased to share successes from the Real-Life Rosies' Cohort 2. The Real Life Rosies program provides women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to secure a job in the manufacturing industry.

Participants have had the exciting opportunity to take part in three company tours this Fall (photos above) and are approaching the end of their program this December. We look forward to celebrating their course completion this holiday season as they continue to pave the way for women in nontraditional careers.

  • Are you a woman looking to start a new career path?
  • Have you ever wondered how something was made?
  • Do you want a career in a growing industry?

This 72 - hour course introduces a wide range of manufacturing processes, including safety, CNC Machining, hand tool usage, robotics, and lean manufacturing.

Training includes skills that will help you grow professionally. Come learn about new job opportunities in the field!

BUSINESSES:

WE CAN HELP YOU UPSKILL YOUR WORKFORCE

The Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison & Oneida (WDB/HMO) has partnered with the NYCAN (NY College Apprenticeship Network) grant to reimburse on-the-job training costs for advanced manufacturing companies that have less than 50 employees and a registered apprentice program.

Wages can be reimbursed at 50% up to $25 an hour for six months of on-the-job training (OJT) with minimum paperwork. The undirected funding provides many benefits for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies and ensures the apprentice is trained in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures.

If you would like to know how your company can take advantage of this funding or know of a company that would benefit, please contact Meghan McBennett at mmcbennett@working-solutions.org.
