Last Call for SLA Conference Session Proposals

Still thinking about submitting a session proposal for the 2024 Saskatchewan Libraries Conference? Now is the time to hit that submit button!

The deadline for session proposals is Nov. 17, 2023.

The theme for this year's conference is "Libraries Create Community," inviting us to explore the many ways that libraries build, enhance, and empower their communities. Some of the ways that the SLA Conference Program Committee sees libraries creating community are:

  • Developing library collections or services that reflect and support our province’s diverse communities;
  • Creating relevant communities of practice for library workers;
  • Library students sharing research projects with the broader library community;
  • Providing instruction to create information-literate citizens in our communities; and,
  • Gathering community in reconciliation and decolonization initiatives.

Use your expertise to benefit your library and information service colleagues from across the province by submitting your session idea.

The 2024 Saskatchewan Libraries Conference will take place May 2-3, 2024 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Regina. All conference sessions will be held in-person at the conference venue. Submissions from within Saskatchewan and outside the province are welcome.

Family Literacy Day Grants Still Available

SLA is pleased to once again be offering program grants for Family Literacy Day!

Family Literacy Day takes place each year on January 27 to raise awareness about the importance of reading and family literacy. These $200 grants are available to SLA’s individual or institutional members to support them as they celebrate and promote Family Literacy Day. The 2024 theme for Family Literacy Day is “Let’s have a family party!”

Grant applications are now open, and will close on Nov. 30, 2023. Applications will be assessed on how well the program aligns with the theme of fostering family literacy.
