Upcoming Service

Presence and Absence

Rev. Jaimie Dingus

10:45 a.m., Sunday, December 1st, 2024

The Soul Matters theme for December is Presence. As we begin to explore how the presence of love, light, and compassion moves us in this holiday season, we will also reflect on absence. Rev. Jaimie will be absent from the congregation, on sabbatical from January to May. The congregation will need to engage in loving presence in order to move through this sabbatical time with strength. Join us as we explore the intertwinings of absence and presence together.

This Sunday Events

First Sunday of the Month Potluck

On Sunday, December 1st, the Hospitality Committee invites everyone to join us in the Fellowship Hall shortly after the service for the First Sunday Potluck Lunch. Drinks will be provided. When you arrive at the church, please bring your food to the Fellowship Hall, and fill out one of the cards provided with the name of your dish and the ingredients. We ask that your food be ready to serve since we don’t have time to prepare or cook food before the service. If you need refrigeration or a warming oven, please see one of the volunteers in the kitchen and we can direct you to the proper refrigerator or oven. We look forward to sharing good food and conversation!

Music News

It’s Thanksgiving! Of course we’re singing the hymn “We Gather Together,” because it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without it!

The UUCH Choir will rehearse at 10:00am this Sunday.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

Share the Plate with New Futures

During the fourth quarter of 2024, UUCH is sharing our plate proceeds with New Futures Family Lodge. All plate proceeds received from the Thursday before the first Sunday through the Saturday after the first Sunday will be split with New Futures. In December, this includes plate donations received from November 28th through December 7th.

New Futures Family Lodge is a 13-room 501(c)3 (non-profit) homeless shelter located in Huntsville, Alabama that supports homeless families looking to regain stability and reshape their lives. New Futures is the only homeless shelter in North Alabama that allows families to reside in a unit together to maintain healthy relationships to allow families the opportunity to thrive as they seek out permanent housing and financial security.

New Futures relies on the community to help support and fund their efforts, from providing food and basic needs for our residents, to engaging residents in life skills workshops and case management and aiding in transitioning towards a “new future” of stability and consistency.

For more information, please visit their website here.

Please consider giving generously to this important local organization.

Alabama Hispanic Association Dinner on December 7th!

The 10th annual Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) dinner and Christmas party is scheduled for December 7th! This is an all-church event and we need your help to make it a success!

You can get involved in 3 ways:

  • Make a financial donation for teen gifts: You can donate online or with a check. If you give via a check, please enter “AHA Gift” in the memo line. You can donate online by following these steps:
  • Click the link here
  • Enter your gift amount in the “AL Hispanic Assoc Gifts” line
  • If you have an Engage account, select “Continue with Login”
  • If you do not have an Engage account and want to proceed as a guest, select “Continue as Guest”
  • Donate a stuffed animal for children: We are collecting stuffed animals to be given out to the children at the party. You can bring new or like-new stuffed animals to church and put them in the boxes in the Foyer or the Fellowship Hall.
  • Donate food and/or your time: In addition to financial donations, you may help with the Christmas Dinner for around 100 people who attend. Please sign up to decorate, prepare food, serve our guests, clean up, help Santa, etc. by clicking here. This event is fun, uplifting, and a great way to enjoy the spirit of Christmas!

Please contact social.justice@uuch.org if you have any questions.

UUSC's Guest At Your Table

UUCH is participating in the annual Guest At Your Table (GAYT) program sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC). The GAYT program has introduced generations of Unitarian Universalists to grassroots partners working for justice around the world with our support. This church year, we are celebrating Guest at Your Table’s 50th anniversary with the theme “Expanding the Welcome Table.”

Every family is encouraged to participate by placing a GAYT box at your dining table and then contributing to this guest at every meal. Please see the table in the Fellowship Hall to pick up your box (the “guest”) and some information about this year’s guests. Boxes can be returned to the church in January or contributions can be sent to UUSC directly.

If you have any questions, please email social.justice@uuch.org

This Week in CYRE

In this session, we bring our journey with The Practice Repair to a close by exploring how honesty can be a tool to repair the harm causes by lying and dishonesty.

Habitat for Humanity Home Build

UUCH members and volunteers from other churches are making good progress at the Fazzingo/Turner house at 216 Lake Drive in Huntsville! Volunteers are taking a break this week while the sheetrock contractor is doing their work.

Your help is needed! Volunteers will be working at the site most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays depending on weather and subcontractor activity.

All volunteers must take a volunteer orientation class that is given virtually every week. The dates of the training vary, so please contact Brad at social.justice@uuch.org for the latest schedule.

If you have any questions or are interested in helping out, please email social.justice@uuch.org

Little Food Pantry

Signups for the LFP have slowed to a trickle unless you are filling it without signing up in the signup genius. It’s hard to know. Our LFP is a much needed service to the neighborhood. Fill it with nutritious foods. Folks rarely take garbanzo beans or lentils (even though they are nutritious). Let’s try to keep the pantry going! Please, if you are able to fill it up, please note your name in the Genius. Also, you can bring non- perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
