A Message from the Vice Provost
Michael Rios is wearing glasses and a suit. He crosses his arms and looks directly into the camera while smiling outside in front of a couple of trees.
It is my great pleasure to share with you the next chapter in our mission to advance community engagement and support public scholarship. This month, Public Scholarship and Engagement launched our first crowdfunding campaign, aimed at supporting graduate students in the Public Scholars for the Future program.

I am thrilled to share that we hit our initial crowdfunding goal in only two weeks! We’ve now doubled the crowdfunding target thanks to the amazing support of our dedicated community of faculty, students, alumni and partners. A gift of any size will help us provide an additional $1,000 of research funding to our graduate students for developing community engaged research with non-university partners.
Our crowdfunding campaign marks the beginning of an exciting journey toward recognizing and rewarding community engagement across the university. In the next year, PSE hopes to launch a new award to recognize faculty achievements in community engaged learning and teaching. We also plan to broaden professional development and support for graduate students.

I am confident that these efforts will make a lasting impact, and I encourage each of you to join us. Together, we can create a bright future for community engagement and ensure that our institution continues to be a leader for years to come.

In community,

Michael Rios

Public Engagement Champion
UC Davis scientists teamed with the Insight Garden Program to bring hands-on science opportunities to people in prison. This unique project challenges traditional ideas of who can participate in science and creates a more inclusive scientific community.

Public Scholarship and Engagement has launched our first-ever fundraising drive through Crowdfund UC Davis to support graduate students through PSE’s Public Scholars for the Future program. A gift of any size will go a long way in helping these students make a difference in the world. Please give today and share our posts on Twitter and LinkedIn.
